Job description

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Audits third party vendor parts pricing financial documentation to improve and/or obtain the best quality service and products within departmental budget. Researches alternative sources of supply and optimizes the logistics for inventory delivery to CTA warehouses.
  • Reviews reports of open order, back order, new order, and pertinent order issues. Responds to field inquiries regarding open orders.
  • Takes immediate action to prevent and/or resolve potential vehicle hold-ins caused by material availability.
  • Reviews new fleet part requirements to ensure a timely introduction of new fleets to CTA operations.
  • Compiles and analyzes usage trends in order to recommend adjustments to existing vendors/parts orders. Assists departments in forecasting their usage needs to ensure adequate stocking.
  • Coordinates regular monthly meetings with vendors, Supply Chain department, and user group such as rail, bus and facility maintenance to identify supply chain issues and improvements needed to increase efficiencies.
  • Reviews CTA contract catalog to check on statuses of renewals and, expenditures. Coordinates with appropriate purchasing personnel to remediate issues.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

  • Mapping, analyzing and improving Transit Operation to maximize bus and rail car availability for revenue service.
  • Reducing inventory levels while providing maximum service to customers.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Information and Decision Sciences, or a combination of education and experience relating to this position.
  • Working knowledge or experience in material handling, inventory control, and scheduling / expediting processes.
  • Working knowledge or experience in contract administration techniques, purchasing, warehousing, or financial analysis.
  • Must possess a valid Driver's License.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Moving inside and outside warehouses, storerooms, stockrooms and various facilities & shops.
  • Requires remaining in a stationary position for extended periods of time and constantly operating a computer and other office productivity machinery.
  • Service Area Requirement: Exempt (Non-Union) employees must live within the boundaries of the CTA Statutory Service Area either at the time of employment or within 6 months of beginning employment at CTA.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Detailed knowledge of supply chain and inventory management.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Federal, State, and Regional procurement regulations and guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of formal and informal bidding procedures and understanding of their legal implications and requirements.
  • Good proficiency with computerized inventory and management systems. Working knowledge of the Oracle Software system.
  • Good proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally in a team environment
  • Ability to train and develop warehouse associates on the proper processes to maintain an accurate inventory and a productive operation.
  • Must be resourceful, self-motivated, and able to operate in a fast paced unstructured environment with little supervision.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • General office environment
  • Required to travel to various CTA, vendor, and transit property locations
  • Subject to normal garage/shop hazards such as noise, dust, grease, moving vehicles, etc. when visiting field locations

EQUIPMENT, TOOLS, AND MATERIALS UTILIZED

  • Personal computer and related software
Employees and/or union members will be given priority consideration in the hiring process, per the applicable labor contracts.

Final salary will be determined in part by the qualifications of the selected candidate and may be higher or lower than target.
