We are looking for a talented individual to continue driving this mapping following a business domain modeling approach.

This role is for a Lead Enterprise Architect to work with business, product, and delivery stakeholders to both define business domain models and guide implementation of software leveraging them, ideal for a candidate both eager to dig into Northwestern Mutual's business as well as working with engineering teams on software design aspects, especially API design.

What you'll do:

  • Lead business architecture modeling activities with business, product, and engineering stakeholders to capture business concepts to drive software interfaces and data model designs.
  • Guide teams that deliver key architectural patterns, engineering practices and standards to align with the domain-driven approach.
  • Guide delivery teams implementing software solutions mapping to business domain models with their API, event, data designs.
  • Formulate and document business architecture modeling, maintenance, and change management processes involving contributors across the Enterprise.
  • Coordinate and manage modeling community.
  • Manage relationship with our Enterprise Modeling platform vendor.
  • Ensure Technology Architecture meets financial, compliance, security, and risk goals.
What we're looking for:
  • Bachelors in Computer Science / Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • 6-8 years of professional experience required.
  • 1-5 years of experience in Enterprise Architecture, or 3-5 years of experience in an Architect or Lead Engineering role.
  • Experience or exposure to Business Architecture frameworks, such as BIZBOK, and their industry-standard reference Business Architectures for Insurance and/or Financial Services.
  • Experience with means of Business Architecture representation and performing associated modeling techniques such as - Value Streams, Business Capability Mapping, and Business Information Object diagrams.
  • Experience authoring conceptual data/object models - facilitating and addressing input from business leaders, product managers, and senior engineers.
  • Experience modeling Enterprise Architecture current state, plateaus, and target state representations in modeling tools that maintain a corresponding entity catalog/database such as ABACUS Enterprise or Archimate.
  • Experience with API-driven development and associated REST and/or GraphQL implementation protocols, standards, and tooling (e.g., OpenAPI, Swagger, Postman, ).
  • Experience with the appropriate and beneficial application of Business Event Driven Architectural patterns.
  • Experience with NM Risk and Investment product offerings and associated back-office operations; or similar experience with other insurance and/or financial product/service offerings.
  • Ability to collaborate and/or provide leadership in a larger group of technical/engineering leads and be accountable for driving efforts towards defined outcomes that align with business strategic goals.
  • Ability to create documentation and lead discussions that communicate both strategic intent as well as an operational approach to audiences at the Lead and Director level, based on the understanding of EA leadership direction.

Compensation Range:

Pay Range - Start:

$121,030.00

Pay Range - End:

$224,770.00
Northwestern Mutual pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement in the salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment. At Northwestern Mutual, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. Please note that the salary range listed in the posting is the standard pay structure. Positions in certain locations (such as California) may provide an increase on the standard pay structure based on the location.
