Job description
Duties You will coordinate distribution of electrician work to employees based on established priorities, work schedules, and production requirements. You will troubleshoot distribution circuits to locate shorts, opens, grounds, crosses, damage, capacitance imbalances, and cable breaks. You will use electrical equipment (e.g., wires, cables, transformers, insulators, lightning arresters, reclosers, switches, fuses, ground connects, control equipment) when installing and repairing high voltage electrical systems. You will verify worksite tools, equipment, and materials are available for high voltage electrical assignments. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a US Citizen. This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. This is a bargaining unit position. You will be required to obtain and maintain a current CDL license. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Repairing high voltage power generating and distributing equipment (e.g. generators, transformers, switches, circuit breakers, recording instruments, and control systems); 2) Reading circuit drawings and diagrams to identify electrical problems; 3) Using high voltage test tools (e.g. oscillators, meggers, phase sticks, and fault finding equipment); 4) Installing transformers, capacitors, insulators, switches, circuit breakers and fuses for main distribution lines over 600V; and 5) Using safety equipment such as hot sticks, rubber blankets, and insulated gloves when working on high voltage systems. May be exposed to danger from explosions of equipment and cables in manholes and vaults, as well as danger from high voltage electrical shock, burns from solder, broken bones, and bruises. May be exposed to heat when working in substations or power-generating facilities, to extremes of weather when working outdoors, and to unpleasant odors and wet slippery surfaces when working in manholes. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Works above ground from aerial bucket trucks and poles, at ground level, and in trenches, or manholes. Performs moderately heavy lifting and carrying of equipment and material weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally, lifts or pulls heavy cables and equipment weighing more than 50 pounds with help of weight handling equipment or assistance from other workers. Uses block and tackle, pulleys, or other lifting devices. Work may involve long periods of crouching and stooping while installing electrical equipment in confined spaces.
