Job description
Serves as one of four public diplomacy, press and outreach professionals responsible for the planning and implementation of CDP's public engagement activities. Responsibilities include: (a) collaborating with other bureaus and within CDP offices to develop press guidance, media products and public diplomacy plans for ongoing initiatives and in response to emergent policies and events; (b) monitoring media coverage in CDP's areas of focus, providing insights to CDP leadership on audience interests and the effectiveness of CDP's messaging; (c) conveying the activities and statements of CDP leadership across media and public affairs platforms, including through work with social media coordinators, other bureaus in the Department, and the Department's Office of Global Public Affairs (GPA); and (d) collaborating within the Department and with the Department's global network of embassies and consulates to design and implement targeted public diplomacy initiatives on areas of CDP strategic interest. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Draft and publish press releases, media statements, and other content on CDP's public-facing channels and through GPA. Develop press guidance, outreach resources, and other materials for State Department and U.S. interagency representatives to use when communicating on topics within CDP's portfolio. Coordinate with media contacts and key stakeholders, aligning with CDP's outreach and engagement priority. Organize and facilitate discussions with CDP and U.S. interagency colleagues to plan media and outreach campaigns on priority issues. Collect and analyze media data related to CDP's campaigns and key issues, presenting findings to CDP bureau leadership. Work with the social media team to develop multimedia content for broader social media engagement. Build and maintain relationships with public affairs and media professionals across U.S. government agencies and external organizations to enhance CDP's external partnerships. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with all stakeholders, including senior management and content creators. Participate in Strategy, Programs, and Communications Unit discussions on overall strategy and operations. Ensure efficient two-way communication between CDP/SPC and other Department media teams. Route memoranda and other correspondence through appropriate channels, ensuring timeliness and adherence to standard formats. Protect sensitive and privileged information in compliance with U.S. government regulations. Respond to media inquiries in a timely manner and prepare briefings for the Department Spokesperson. Special Knowledge, Experience, and Educational Requirements: Bachelor's degree required. Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET-level security clearance. Demonstrated experience in public affairs and media engagement. Knowledge of best practices for traditional and digital media outreach, including press releases, media advisories, and news platforms. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong organizational abilities. Experience communicating effectively with senior managers. Familiarity with topics relevant to international diplomacy, international affairs, or international cyberspace and digital policy. Proficiency with modern technology collaboration tools such as MS Teams, SharePoint, G Suite, and O365. Familiarity with media creation tools such as Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premiere / Final Cut Pro, or equivalents. Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced work environment. Strong interest in continuous learning and professional growth. Willingness to collaborate and openness to diverse perspectives and constructive feedback.
