Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION: 1. PROJECT TYPES The employer is a landscape architecture firm. Project managers work on landscape design projects for public parks, workplace and tech campus, mixed use commercial development and large-scale urban planning and design. 2. DESIGN RESPONSIBILITIES a. Schematic design Collect information about the site, including its physical and historical context, areas and other dimensional requirements of each program element and structure. Engage in dialogue with clients to understand their project objectives and aspirations. Analyze site existing conditions, including climate analysis (solar study, wind study), hydrology analysis, particularly general direction of surface water flow patterns, site circulations, including vehicular, pedestrian, bicycle, service vehicles, and parking, also analyze topography, including topography, landform, and slope analysis, soils, vegetation, views and landmarks, existing man-made features, utilities and infrastructure (on and off site). Create diagrams to visualize the analysis and propose initial design intent. Develop design ideas, organize various programs, depending on different types of projects, the program elements will include outdoor working space, game area, dining court, event plaza, lawn, meditation garden, amphitheater seating, group gathering and seating space, retail, dog park, kids play area. Organize activities, design the circulation sequence from entry to passage from area to area. Divide the space, consider existing and proposed topographic features, organize program elements that have similar and related functions to be clustered together to better share entry, parking and support elements (such as restroom). Consider experiential possibilities for users based on project types and goals, create a sense of place and a unique character. Create site plan, sections, perspective drawings, 3D models, renderings, animations and other visual materials to communicate design intent, benefits and how the design meets the program and budget objectives of the client. b. Design development Develop the approved preliminary design from the schematic phase in greater detail. Coordinate with other consultants to verify the feasibility of the design, for example, coordinate with civil engineer on grading and drainage including storm water management, coordinate with structural engineer for sub-slab height, ensure the compliance with soil and foam depth requirements. Develop planting design ideas, choose tree types such as deciduous or evergreen, shrub species, and groundcover species. Select materials for paving (concrete, stone, brick, unit pavers), retaining walls, arbor structures, coordinate with manufacturer for proposed site furniture, including tables, chairs, lounges, fire pits, bike racks, water fountains, etc. and custom structures including working pods, shade trellis, etc. Provide accurate details about the shape, size, dimensions, systems of all site elements including hardscape and softscape. Coordinate with lighting designer to choose appropriate lighting fixtures and reasonable lighting layouts. Provide construction documents including construction plans, layout plans, sections, construction details, soil plans, grading plans, planting plans, planting details, public utility plans, specs of material selection and supporting narrative and specs for pricing the cost of the design. Prepare documentations required for various permits such as grading permits, right of way permit, retaining wall permit, etc. c. Construction documents Provide graphic drawings including plans, details, sections, notes, material schedule, indicate size, shape, color, quantities, and locations of design elements, in addition to design patterns. Provide technical specifications, describe the quality of materials, the general methods of construction and how the built and supplied elements will be evaluated for their conformance to the intent of the drawings. Coordinate with specialists for specific investigation, for example, a geotechnical investigation and report with soil testing results and recommendation. d. Design implementation and construction administration Evaluate the adequacy of the materials and workmanship of the contractor, review the documentation provided by the contractor and provide guidance when questions arise. 3. DESIGN DOCUMENTATION and DRAWING COORDINATION. Provide 2D plans, 3D models and technical drawings including sections and details through all design phases to explain design intents and implementations. Coordinate with other consultants and contactors, ensure design coherence and integrity. This involves aligning the indoor and outdoor activities through coordination with architects and interior designers, ensuring uniformity in materials and furniture style. Additionally, coordinate with civil engineers to integrate the landscape irrigation pipes with the whole site drainage system, and collaborate with structural engineer to ensure the alignment between landscape concrete stem walls and structural columns. ASSIST PRINCIPAL WITH PROJECT RESPONSIBILITIES IN A PROJECT MANAGER ROLE FOR MULTIPLE PROJECTS. REPORT DIRECTLY TO PRINCIPAL ON ALL PROJECT ISSUES, CONFLICTS AND BUDGET CONCERNS ENSURE ALL DEADLINES AND DELIVERABLES ARE MET AS REQUIRED BY THE PROJECT AND AS DIRECTED BY PRINCIPAL. FORECAST HOURS/EFFORT NEEDED FOR ASSIGNED PROJECT. REPORT ON PROJECT DELIVERABLES FOR UPCOMING WEEKS. REPORT ON OVERALL PROJECT SCHEDULE AND RELATIONSHIP WITH CLIENTS. DESIGN DEVELOPMENT, DESIGN IMPLEMENTATION, DESIGN DOCUMENTATION, FACILIATE WEEKLY MEETING, REVIEW OF UPCOMING MEETINGS AND AGENDAS, MEETING ATTENDANCE AND TAKING MEETING NOTES, DOCUMENT/GRAPHICS COORDINATION. CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS AND DRAWING COORDINATION. COLLABORATE WITH ASSOCIATES AND INTERNS ON ALL PHASES OF WORK FOR MULTIPLE PROJECT TYPES. Responsible for 1-2 special projects (technology, office management, file management, etc.). EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: THIS POSITION REQUIRES A BACHELORS DEGREE (OR FOREIGN EQUIVALENT) IN LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE, ARCHITECTURE, OR IN A CLOSELY RELATED FIELD, PLUS 3 YEARS OF WORK EXPERIENCE IN THE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECTURE OR IN A CLOSELY RELATED OCCUPATION. Special Requirements: REQUIRED EXPERTISE/KNOWLEDGE OF: 1. Management of landscape architecture projects through all phases, including conceptual design, design development, and construction documentation phases. 2. Experience selecting planting and hardscape materials. 3. Proficient with AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, Rhinoceros, Grasshopper, Lumion, Bluebeam, or Revit. 4. Experience preparing site plans, technical details, and specifications for projects across multiple scales, including public parks, gardens, playgrounds, campuses, and mixed-use commercial developments. 5. Experience in collaborating with multidisciplinary team to prepare client presentations, design studies, and construction documentations. 6. Experience in assessing new technologies and advising company regarding them. 7. Experience in AR VR integration within the workplace. 8. Knowledge of how to analyze land conditions, including drainage, utility, and parcel ownership. MUST POSSESS EXPERTISE/ KNOWLEDGE SUFFICIENT TO ADEQUATELY PERFORM THE DUTIES OF THE JOB BEING OFFERED.
