R- Description Leidos has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Project Engineer supporting space suit development for the Human Health and Performance Contract (HHPC) at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, Texas. This role provides engineering support for the design, development, testing of hardware for use on exploration missions (e.g. Artemis, Mars) as well as the International Space Station (ISS). The Senior Project Engineer will play a pivotal role in the execution of research and development projects for NASA/JSC in support of exploration missions and the ISS. The successful candidate will provide key skills needed for requirements development and verification, hardware and technology development, and material, component and assembly level testing of advanced space suit hardware. The Sr. Project Engineer will be responsible for reviewing and understanding engineering drawings, as well as strategizing, overseeing and participating in hands-on development activities. Effective communication will be a critical skill in working with the project, other project engineers, technical support staff, NASA vendors, and other supporting personnel. This position will require the candidate to multitask and coordinate multiple highly technical and complex development threads within the context of and in pursuit of the success of larger projects. This position will require distilling high-level project goals into discrete project tasks to ensure that the projects are completed successfully and on schedule. US Citizenship or US Permanent Residency and the ability to successful obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance are required. Primary Responsibilities: Collaborate with and lead multidisciplinary teams to develop and test space suits and related hardware.
Manage project requirements, ensuring compliance with NASA standards and protocols.
Oversee the development, execution, analysis and reporting of tests of space suits and space suit components
Analyze test results, produce detailed reports, and recommend design improvements.
Interface with NASA stakeholders as required.
Lead troubleshooting efforts and root cause analysis for hardware issues.
Develop and maintain project documentation, including project reports and technical memos. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, or related field) and 12+ years of direct experience in development of space suit hardware design, including gloves and other pressure garment components.
4+ years of leading multi-disciplinary teams developing space suit hardware or technology.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings. Original Posting Date: 2024-10-04
