Job Posting: State and Local Tax (SALT) Manager

Are you an experienced tax professional looking to make a significant impact? We are seeking a State and Local Tax (SALT) Manager to join a dynamic team dedicated to providing top-tier advisory services. In this role, you will guide clients through the complexities of state and local tax implications related to their business objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise multistate companies on state and local tax issues with a focus on optimization and risk management.
  • Conduct nexus determinations, audit defense planning, notice responses, and Voluntary Disclosure Agreement (VDA) projects.
  • Perform technical reviews of partnership and corporate state and local tax returns, identifying significant tax issues.
  • Supervise the day-to-day workload of SALT Senior Associates and Associates on assigned engagements.
  • Research and analyze a wide range of state and local tax issues, including nexus considerations and apportionment methodology.
  • Draft memorandums, opinions, and documentation on various tax matters.
  • Assist with state and local tax controversy, including managing audits and representing clients during hearings.
  • Review tax implications and identify alternative strategies to benefit clients.

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of recent experience in state and local taxation, preferably with a large regional or Big 4 public accounting firm.
  • Strong understanding of tax research, complex return reviews, and providing technical advice on tax issues.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to give and receive constructive feedback.
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and a proactive problem-solver.
  • Experience managing multiple engagements and adapting to changing technology.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and tax software (CCH Axcess & Engagement preferred).
  • CPA, Certified Member of the Institute (CMI), or bar license preferred, with flexibility for highly qualified candidates.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Competitive salary range of $115K - $135K annually, adjusted based on location and experience.
