Position: Network Engineer

Location: Albany, NY with Frequent Statewide Travel

Contract: 12+ Months contract

NYS Office of Information Technology Services, Enterprise Network Services (ENS), is seeking a senior Site Consultation Network Engineer to assist our team with the process of performing Network Site Surveys. The contracted resources will provide technical consulting and operational support services to multiple counties throughout New York State. The field engineering activities for this task, as directed by ITS. The Award for this candidate will be based on overall knowledge and skill set inside the IT arena. Interviews will be required for submitted applicants. Additionally, NYS background checks will be required for this position.

Office location: Albany, NY with Frequent Statewide Travel

Monday - Friday 8:30am-5:00pm with occasional weekend or after-hours work as needed Approximate 12-36 month contract

Qualifications:

Proven ability to work independently and as a team member

Proven analytical, problem solving, organizational and time management skills

Good communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills

Good organizational, multi-tasking, and time-management skills

Good understanding of layer 3 routing including Border Gateway Protocol (BGP), VRFs, route maps, redistribution, NAT, subnetting, etc.

Good understanding of security policies, NAT policies, routing, tunnels, upgrades, logging, and monitoring

Experience working with Telco carriers to specify required circuit connectivity

Experience working with monitoring and packet capture/analysis tools

Proficiency in Microsoft Visio for solutions documentation

Networking certifications (CCNA/CCNP, PCNSA/PCNSE, Network+, etc.) are a plus

Responsibilities:

The field engineering activities for this position, as directed by ITS, may include:

Completion of site survey documentation (site survey workbook, etc.).

Documentation of the site environment through photographs. Provision of rack and/or data closet information leveraging ITS template documentation.

Assistance with performing basic network equipment installation, relocation, and removal.

Provision of support for onsite equipment, such as workstations (personal computers PC ), Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) Phones, wireless access points (WAPs) and communications equipment.

Identification and installation/deinstallation support for networking and data communications equipment.

Provision of field support for rack and stack and identification associated to network connectivity.

Provision of site survey support, including basic site survey preparation, cable identification and basic connectivity, and troubleshooting.

Provision of network assistance, inventory, and asset control oversight within the ITS work
