Job description

Duties Monitor personnel access via both personal sight and electronic access control systems into restricted areas. May interview subjects, witnesses, and persons involved in cases. Prepare written reports on all incidents and investigations as required and must be willing to use case documents and/or testify during judicial proceedings as a witness or security professional. Conduct initial inquiries for both administrative and potential criminal complaints. Conduct periodic parcel, package, container, and equipment checks following prescribed special procedures to ensure only authorized property is brought into or removed from military treatment facility. Requirements Conditions of Employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. A pre-placement medical examination is required. This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing. This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required. Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report to work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions. Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds may be required. This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules. This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays). Must possess and maintain a valid stateside driver's license. Qualifications Competition for the Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to Veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing armed guard services for the protection of life (employees, visitors, patients, etc.), maintaining an activity report to document shift activity, and performing access control ensuring physical security of campus and facilities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone no substitution of education for experience is permitted. This position is required to work uncommon tours of duty hours such as, on-call, working either fixed or rotating shifts, evenings, weekends and/or holidays. This may include firing at night, with one hand, or while under time or physical stress. Position requires employee to perform routine and emergency daily duties while wearing a uniform and/or protective clothing to include facial/ head worn protective masks (SAPR, SCBA, etc.) soft body armor where assigned, and duty belt with police equipment weighing several pounds. Incumbent must be able to act in the capacity of a first responder to critical incidents, including but not limited to: criminal acts, natural disasters, lost or missing persons, mass casualties, and/or acts of terror or mass destruction. This will include active participation in training and exercises designed to determine the readiness of responding forces or the effectiveness of protective measures and programs. You will be prepared to execute the lawful orders of critical incident commanders, military or civilian, and assigned duties as such. During such actual emergencies/ critical incidents, you may incur, without prior notice, extra shifts, long hours standing at security or traffic control posts, extended duty hours between meal breaks, and working outdoors in inclement weather for extended periods of time. Such duties, even if performed properly may place you in danger of severe personal injury, loss of limb, or even death. Employee must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR and first aid. May act as a first responder in a medical emergency.
