Job description

We're Hiring: Scientist / Research Engineer - Advanced Emissions Team

Location: Dearborn, MI (Fully Onsite)

Compensation: Up to $43 per hour, based on experience

We are seeking a skilled Chemist or Chemical Engineer to join our Advanced Emissions team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in chemistry and a deep understanding of catalyst function and durability for exhaust gas treatment in internal combustion engines. You will work in both lab and vehicle environments to evaluate and improve emission control systems to meet increasingly stringent standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Characterize materials for catalyst substrates, particle filters, and exhaust assemblies using techniques such as SEM, CTE, shear strength testing, porosimetry, XRF, XRD, and BET.

  • Evaluate catalytic activity of monolithic samples and full-size aftertreatment systems.

  • Benchmark supplier formulations for catalyst durability and performance.

  • Collaborate with test engineers, technical specialists, and suppliers on new aftertreatment concepts.

  • Work with calibration teams to support root cause analysis for emission warranty issues and post-production concerns.

  • Assemble and maintain reactor and catalyst assemblies for testing and validation.

  • Validate laboratory findings on vehicle applications through dyno and chassis rolls testing.

  • Analyze vehicle emissions data to assess sensitivity to aftertreatment design parameters and operational noise factors.

Required Experience:

  • 5-10 years in combustion engine emissions.

Preferred Experience:

  • 5+ years solving complex system problems related to engines and emissions.

Required Skills:

  • In-depth understanding of catalyst function, failure modes, and sensitivity to noise factors.

  • Familiarity with chassis or engine dynamometer facilities, vehicle drive cycles, and emission data collection using ATI Vision/ETAS.

  • Solid technical knowledge of regulated emissions requirements.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with LabVIEW, MATLAB, and emission measurement techniques such as FID, FTIR, mass spectrometry, and x-ray analysis.

Join us as we lead the way in emission control innovation!
