Job description

Duties As a SHEET METAL MECHANIC (AIRCRAFT) - TITLE 32, WG-3806-10, you will inspect and troubleshoot aircraft structures such as fuselage, tail, wings, cowlings and stabilizers. Determine the nature and extent of repairs to be made. Remove, fabricate, repair, modify, and install parts and assemblies using tools and a variety of metal working equipment. Fit and trim components to aircraft. Perform fabrication of local manufactured items required for facility support. Repair cracks in aircraft skin. Fabricate and fit patches to damaged areas. Install regular, heat-treated, high shear, and blind type aircraft rivets and fasteners. Inspect, repair, fabricate and replace honeycomb and fiberglass structural assemblies. Set up, operate and maintain power shears, metal brakes, rolls, dimpling machines, drills, saws, heat-treating furnaces, hardness testers, arc and oxyacetalene welders and other metal working equipment and tools. Work from blueprints, technical manuals, diagrams and work orders. Prepare and design layout, dies, jigs, and templates to fabricate, repair or modify aircraft and equipment. May paint, strip or stencil aircraft and/or components. Participate in the safety program for the sheet metal function. May assist in requisitioning and identifying stock material, parts and equipment. Review and maintain technical manuals and publications. Maintain records and entries on log book forms. May assist in other functions within the Component Repair Shop. May assist in the performance of fire/crash/rescue duties. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Military Grades: E4 (SPC) - E7 (SFC) RANK REQUIREMENT: Member must provide in writing with their application package that they are willing to accept a reduction in rank in order to be qualified for this position, if applicable. Failure to do so will result in disqualification. Area 3B applicants must meet the military qualifications and rank requirement when assessed as a member of the Kentucky Army National Guard. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: You must maintain membership in the Kentucky National Guard. You must be assigned to a compatible military position. Wear of the military uniform. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position. Qualifications MINIMUM REQUIREMENT: Experience that demonstrates the ability to plan, manufacture, and install cylindrical, square, or rectangular-shaped objects that have easily constructed fastenings such as single and double-hem edges and single, double or grooved seams. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 18 months experience in planning, layout, and construction skills to manufacture items and systems with various seams such as dovetailed seams, set-in-bottom seams, burred-bottom seams, or wired/lock seams. Experience using more complicated shop tools and equipment. Experience using various metals such as stainless steel, copper sheet, magnesium, honeycomb material and alloys. Experience demonstrating the use of more complicated mathematical calculations and complicated measuring instruments.
