Job description

Required Skills for the Data Engineer:

- At least 7 years of experience in software engineering.

- Minimum 2 years of experience with Go programming language.

- Proven experience (2 years) building and maintaining data-intensive APIs using a RESTful approach.

- Experience with stream processing using Apache Kafka.

- Proficiency in Unit Testing and Test Driven Development methodologies.

- Familiarity with containerized application deployments using Docker.

- Ability to build and maintain cloud-based infrastructure on major cloud providers like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform.

- Experience in data modeling for large-scale databases, either relational or NoSQL.

Preferred Skills:

- Experience with protocol buffers and gRPC.

- Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform, Apache Beam, Google Cloud Dataflow, Google Kubernetes Engine or Kubernetes.

- Background in working with scientific datasets or applying quantitative science to business problems.

- Bioinformatics experience, especially in large-scale storage and data mining of variant data.

As a key member of the data engineering team, you will play a critical role in transforming complex scientific datasets into innovative software solutions that drive advancements in crop system development decisions. Your work will involve creating distributed analysis capabilities, exploring technology stacks, and collaborating with top talent to solve real-world challenges.

Responsibilities:

- Be a critical senior member of the data engineering team focused on creating distributed analysis capabilities around various datasets.

- Apply deep knowledge of algorithms and data structures to continuously improve and innovate software craftsmanship.

- Collaborate with top-level talent to solve complex challenges with real-world impact.

- Explore relevant technology stacks to determine the best fit for each dataset.

- Present work at technical conferences such as Google Cloud Next and GraphConnect.

- Project your talent into relevant projects, emphasizing the strength of ideas over organizational hierarchy.
