Job description

Duties This position is located within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Intelligence Enterprise (IE) as an Intelligence Research Specialist (IRS), all source analyst, in a developmental capacity, gaining experience and on the job training and expertise to apply a full range of intelligence, knowledge, skills, and abilities to provide insights that warn of potential threats and assessments on possible outcomes in regard to national security. This position starts at a salary of $55,924.00 (GS-07, Step 1) to $88,926.00 (GS-09, Step 10) with promotion potential to $153,354.00 (GS-13 Step 10). Major duties include: Gathering, evaluating and analyzing and abstracts data from multiple or specific sources; produces finished analysis reports and briefings. Ensuring that all intelligence analysis processes and products align with all CBP-relevant legal authorities, policies and guidelines. Reviewing, processing, and evaluating intelligence information from a variety of sources to develop trends, patterns profiles, estimates and studies. Preparing preliminary and finished intelligence products and disseminating the products to the appropriate officials. Qualifications Experience: You qualify for the GS-07 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Performing preliminary research, analysis, and evaluation of raw intelligence data based on factors such as the recency, and authenticity of technical details and coverage. Preparing organized presentations of studies which are necessarily brief due to the uncomplicated nature of the specific intelligence, portions of larger studies as assistants to other specialists, or summaries of larger studies. Reviewing requests for information coming from research specialists and make preliminary determinations of appropriate sources for acquiring such information. You qualify for the GS-9 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Providing assistance to senior specialist in the collection of intelligence information to identify trends, patterns, profiles, estimates, and studies. Engaging in the review of data, research, and analysis to develop and produce intelligence products. Assisting in the implementation of intelligence collection plans by carrying out specified portions or segments of specific projects. Processing and evaluating volumes of intelligence information from a variety of sources. Identifying and recommending solutions to analytical problems and disseminating intelligence products using prescribed methods. Education Substitution: GS-07: Successful completion of one year of full-time graduate education from an accredited college or university may substitute for the experience required at this level. This education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise a year of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 18 semester or 27 quarter hours. GS-09: A Master's degree, two full years of graduate education, a J.D. or an LL.B. degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for experience required at this level. Check with your school to determine how many credit hours comprise two years of graduate education. If that information is not available, use 36 semester or 54 quarter hours. Combining Education and Experience: To combine your education and experience, you must convert each to a percentage, and then add the percentages. If your education is currently described in quarter hours, multiply by the fraction 2/3 to convert into semester hours then divide the semester hours by 18. To determine your percentage of qualifying experience, divide your total months of experience by the required number of months of experience. Add your percentages together. The total must equal at least 100% in order to qualify. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 10/07/2024.
