The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for an Airfield Clearing Equipment Operator (WG-5767-08) to join the team at the 354th Civil Engineer Squadron, Eielson AFB, Alaska! In this role you would operate airfield clearing equipment, auxiliary equipment, and engineering/construction equipment to complete functions such as cutting, moving, digging, grading, rolling earth, sand, stone, and other materials. This is a permanent 6-month cyclical federal position that offers a rewarding and exciting career with exceptional pay and benefits! Retirement - Immediate coverage by the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS), part of a three-tiered systems which contains a Basic Benefits Plan, Social Security, and Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), similar to a 401(K).DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES - Operates/drives one or more types of gasoline or diesel-powered special purpose airfield clearing equipment, including snow removal equipment and vacuum type sweepers to clear runways, taxiways, ramps, and aprons of snow, ice, or foreign objects. - Operates/drives one or more types of heavy equipment to push, pull, pile, or load materials, such as sand, gravel, earth, coal, moving and covering refuse, and clearing brush, rocks, tree stumps, and other material. - Uses and maintains tools and equipment. Performs operator maintenance on vehicles, such as cleaning vehicles, checking and replenishing fluids to proper levels, examining and changing filters, lubricating equipment, and making necessary adjustments. Uses hand tools for changing attachments, tightening loose nuts and bolts, etc. - Complies with safe driving rules when driving and maneuvering vehicles in all conditions such as ice and snow and while driving in tandem with other vehicles at staggered intervals and at speeds of 20-40 miles per hour. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES - Knowledge of special purpose airfield clearing equipment, such as snow removal equipment and vacuum type sweepers and attachments used to clear taxiways, runways, aprons, and ramps. - Knowledge of engineering equipment, such as graders, tractors with bulldozer or angle dozer blades, front-end loaders, backhoes, and trench diggers. - Knowledge of the different sets of controls and operation of special purpose airfield clearing and engineering equipment and attachments. QUALIFICATIONS - US Citizenship is required. - Shift work is required for this position and significant overtime opportunities are available. - This is a drug testing position. The employee is subject to random drug testing. - Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance. - The work requires the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required for the position. A CDL is no longer required for position. - This position requires a physical/medical examination. The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: Heavy physical effort is used by the operator in constantly climbing on and off vehicles; reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to handle different sets of controls to operate the equipment and attachments while sitting for extended periods of time. Requires physical and mental coordination and depth perception.
