Job Summary:

The Diagnostic Cardiac/ Medical Sonographer is responsible for performing all echocardiography-related procedures in a clinic setting. This role requires a comprehensive knowledge of cardiovascular principles and ultrasound physics and instrumentation as well as the ability to produce and evaluate cardiac ultrasound images and related data that are used by physicians to render a medical diagnosis. The cardiac sonographer is responsible for acting as a liaison between staff, physicians, patients and family members while exercising discretion and judgment in the performance of the clinical examination. The cardiac sonographer will also provide the physician with an oral or written summary of the technical findings as well as provide patient education. The cardiac sonographer serves patients of all ages. We are seeking a person who is double board certified in general or vascular studies as well. Willing to train in general or vascular, experience is preferred.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

  • The cardiac/ medical sonographer is responsible for performing all echocardiography-related procedures in the clinic setting
  • This role requires a comprehensive knowledge of cardiovascular principles and ultrasound physics and instrumentation as well as the ability to produce and evaluate cardiac ultrasound images and related data that are used by physicians to render a medical diagnosis
  • The cardiac/medical sonographer is responsible for acting as a liaison between staff, physicians, patients and family members while exercising discretion and judgment in the performance of the clinical examination
  • The cardiac sonographer will also provide the physician with an oral or written summary of the technical findings as well as provide patient education
  • The cardiac sonographer serves patients of all ages
  • Carries out cardiac examinations following department protocol and procedures
  • Examines requisition for appropriate orders, exam date, indication for exam
  • Reprints corrected requisition
  • Provides accurate data to radiologist/cardiologist reading exam studies per exam policy and procedures
  • Acquires and archives for the procedure
  • Demonstrates competency in imaging and archiving procedures
  • Documents appropriate information in patient's chart
  • Ensures the procedure and related supplies are billed correctly
  • Participates in performance improvement and quality control activities
  • Performs PACS Functions and burning CD s and routing and retrieving studies
  • Complies with the Compliance Program including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and regulations, and Hoskinson policies and procedures
  • Maintains adequate stock of supplies in room
  • Maintains cleanliness of radiology equipment rooms
  • Performs IV insertion for IV contrast studies
  • Abilities to do General or Vascular studies in clinic settings, willing to train
  • All other duties as assigned

Education/Certifications/Licenses
  • Associates Degree in Applied Science
  • Certification - Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) Certification - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS)
  • Certification-RDMS (Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer) certification or certification of RVT (Registered Vascular Technologists)
  • BLS certification from American Heart Association

Experience
  • 3 + years of Sonographer Experience
  • Stress Echocardiography Experience preferred.
  • Pediatric Cardiac Sonography Experience preferred
  • General Diagnostic Medical or Vascular Experience preferred

Required Skills/Abilities
  • Adhere to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations; the standard of care in the community applicable to employees; relevant licensure/certification, accreditation, and ethical standards; third-party payer requirements; and clinic s bylaws, rules and policies, including but not limited to clinics employment policies
  • Physical, sensory, and cognitive abilities sufficient to perform essential functions.
  • Good interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively operate sonographic equipment
  • Ability to use independent judgment to acquire the optimum diagnostic sonographic information in each examination performed.
  • Knowledge of safety and infection control protocols.

Physical, Mental Demands/Working Environment
  • Physical Requirements: Heavy work - exerting up to 25 pounds of force constantly (67-100% of the time), and/or up to 50 pounds frequently (34-66% of the time), and/or up to 100 pounds of force occasionally (up to 33% of the time), and or up to 100 pounds of force seldomly to move objects. Possible exposure to radiation and frequent exposure to contaminated needles and infectious body substances. Requires the ability to work designated shift lengths (including 8 and 12 hours)
