Job description

CNAs or Certified Nurse Aides are a critical part of the healthcare field. They provide healthcare for
patients at home, in hospitals and other facilities under the direction of a nurse. CNAs often help
patients and residents with day-to-day tasks.

Functions of a CNA:

1. Provide great patient care
2. Answer patient call lights and determine how to best help them
3. Provide physical support for patients or residents with daily living activities, including but not
limited to:
a. Personal hygiene
b. Bathing
c. Toileting
d. Dressing
e. Walking
f. Standing
g. Exercising
h. Getting out of bed
4. Turning and repositioning bedridden patients
5. Examining patients to detect issues requiring medical care, including open wounds, bruises, or
blood in urine
6. Measuring and recording food and liquid intake and urinary and fecal output and reporting
changes to medical or nursing staff
7. Recording vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rate as
requested by staff
8. Ensuring patients or residents receive appropriate diet by reviewing their dietary restrictions,
food allergies, and preferences
9. Noting changes in patient behavior, including physical symptoms and complaints directly from
the patient
10. Stay up to date on CNA training and facility policy and procedure
