Job description

Description Position Title: Cable Splicer Location: Fort McCoy, WI Clearance Level: Secret Responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Performs support of many different and varying types of cable and equipment with exposure to environmental conditions. Provides design and maintenance support, which includes monitoring the security of cable runs, providing alternate routing for disaster recovery, with consideration of the location of local exchange carrier facilities and the physical terrain. Reviews engineered drawings, statements of work, and technical manuals to determine requirements for underground, buried, and aerial cable systems, prepares and installs distribution equipment, and terminates/splices cables. Ensures installations are compliant with technical standards, specifications, and engineered directives. Locates, repairs, and/or replaces splice cases, performs troubleshooting to locate faulty splice cases and component assemblies. Maintain/repair/replace the existing cable plant, provide fiber optic/copper cable fabrication, support adds/moves/changes. Documents infrastructure by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration diagrams and specifications. Maintains network by troubleshooting and repairing outages; testing network back-up procedures; updating documentation. Maintains safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal regulations. Responds to service requests, troubleshoot, isolate, and repair voice and data problems. Inspects and performances routine maintenance in manholes. Assists with repair, securing, and replacement of all cable-related defects within manholes. Inspects and reports deficiencies with telephone poles, pedestals, handholes, and other outside plant infrastructure. Makes repairs as necessary or escalates to other technicians. Provides other duties as assigned to support contract requirements. Attends training sessions as required (DoD, Information Assurance, Security, Corporate). Qualifications High school education or equivalent Five years of experience on maintenance, installation, testing, and repair of telecommunications equipment and systems Experience with requisite tools and test equipment, to include Fusion Splicers. In depth knowledge of OSP network drawings, route maps, interpreting fiber test results, fiber optic network infrastructure, engineering design and construction, and the ability to work cross-functionally to monitor network performance. Must be able to lift 50 pounds Effective oral and written communication skills BICSI Installer I (or higher) certification (preferred)
