Psychiatric Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner - PRN Highland Hospital Charleston, West Virginia
About the Job:
The Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing general medical or psychological care and treatment to patients, under the direction of physician according to scope of practice guidelines. Performs history, physical examinations, and preventive health measures or Initial psychological exams, admissions and discharges on assigned patients; provides consultation and liaison throughout hospital facility; performs daily rounds on patients as directed by supervising physician; prescribes medications; provides clinical assessments and diagnosis; and individual, group, and family therapy. Works collaboratively with the medical/clinical staff under the guidelines of state licensure for Nurse Practitioners.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Gathers, develops, and evaluates age-appropriate history and physical (H&P) or psychological patient data in collaboration with patient, family and health care team for physician's use in treating patients according to scope of practice.
Assesses, reassess physical, psychosocial or psychological and cultural needs of patients and formulates measures to meet patient needs.
Establishes priorities in planning and organizing patient care based on H&P assessment or initial psychological evaluation. Participates in the formulation of patient Master Treatment Plan
Encourages family involvement in patient care. Responds to identified patient and family educational needs. Assists in patient teaching as needed.
Diagnoses and treats acute, episodic or chronic illness, independently or as part of a healthcare team.
Documents pertinent data including assessment, interventions, and evaluations. Charts clinical observation (direct or through dictation), evaluations and treatment of patient in required time according to facility guidelines.
Collaborates with physicians and other staff on establishing realistic outcome goals as needed.
Implements appropriate health care interventions as needed, using appropriate guidelines of Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) prescriptive practice or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) prescriptive practice.
Prepares discharge summaries for physician review.
Under physician collaborative practice agreement as a Family Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive privileges, will call permissible medication to pharmacies.
Collaborates with medical nutrition therapy staff to evaluate intake/output; calorie counts, mechanical difficulties in chewing/swallowing/digesting food as necessary (FNP).
Provides on-call responsibilities on scheduled basis directed by medical staff.
Focuses on health promotion and disease prevention. Orders, performs or interprets diagnostic tests such as lab work and x-rays. May prescribe medication within scope of practice guidelines.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Master of Science of Nursing with Family Nurse Practitioner Specialty degree or Master of Science of Nursing with Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Specialty degree from an accredited school of nursing required.
One or more years' experience as an RN with the patient population of the facility line of business required.
LICENSES/DESIGNATIONS/CERTIFICATIONS:
Current Nurse Practitioner license required, per state regulations/requirements, may also require a current DEA license.
