Job description

We have an immediate opening in the Charleston, WV area for an experienced transportation Construction Manager. The Construction Manager will be responsible for managing staff and managing large WVDOT and locality projects, including design-bid-build and Design-Build projects. Must have significant experience in roadway/bridge construction. Experience on local government projects are a plus. Capable of leading a construction staff, be proficient at reading and interpreting plans, specifications and shop drawings as well as overseeing construction document controls and enforcing contract compliance. Full WVDOT materials certification preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Construction management - partial in office / partial field
  • Resolving field conflicts and disputes
  • Coordinating and running meetings
  • Ensuring staff is trained
  • Overseeing documentation
  • Performing field inspection as required
  • Reviewing Contractor schedules including initial CPM and monthly updates
  • Communicating effectively with the Engineer, Owner and Owner's operational and field staff on a regular basis
  • Keeping them apprised of field conditions and maintaining active communications and excellent rapport with the Owner and the entire project team throughout the construction process
  • Coordination with various stakeholders and the traveling public
  • Oversee project safety

Requirements:

  • Certified as a TRETCNO - Level V with the WVTRET Certification Board - or equivalent, specifically:
  • BS in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management or similar technical degree, plus 7 years of technical experience
  • AS in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Management or similar technical degree, plus 10 years of technical experience
  1. Experience in construction inspection/management, design/build project management, and CPM scheduling preferred

  • Must have a valid driver's license and personal vehicle for travel to and from assigned construction sites
  • Must have good communication skills
  • Must be able to read/interpret plans and specifications
  • Writing and drawing skills are necessary to complete inspection reports
  • Basic computer skills (Word & Excel) are required for completing electronic inspection reports
