Job description

Duties Serve as a Shift Leader who is an assistant to the Guard Shift Supervisor. Instruct employees in specific tasks and job techniques and provides on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures. Independently perform installation access control for pedestrians and vehicles utilizing standard operating procedures, written orders and regulatory requirement as a guide to access determination for a wide range of unique circumstances. Operate and perform research queries on the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) workstation terminal(s) in accordance with (IAW) federal and state laws. Provide information/recommendations regarding scenario/operational effectiveness. Requirements Conditions of Employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position. The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted. The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles. This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment. This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime. This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer. This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time. Incumbent must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals. Employee and prospective employee of this job are expected to maintain a high standard of conduct; and when being considered for employment and periodically thereafter, they must be assessed under the Individual Reliability Program. Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons. Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT). Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform IAW AR 190-56, maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene. Employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors. Employee must be able to perform as a member of the installation's overall security response capability. Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training. Incumbent is subject to possible civil actions due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the detention of individuals. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Controlling access of vehicles, visitors and pedestrians and using automated systems to query and verify suitability for visitor entry; 2) Working with Federal, State, municipal, local or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident or trespass; AND 3) maintain order and protecting life. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-06). Education ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This position requires the incumbent to work both inside and outside with possible exposure to inclement weather. This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation with Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
