Overview Intelligent Waves is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Senior Network Engineer to join our team to support a Small Business Innovation & Research (SBIR) project. This is an immediate hire with work through December 2024, with potential for follow on work. This role will focus on the design, installation, and integration network solutions for critical missions. As a Senior Network Engineer, you will play a key role in ensuring the successful design, deployment, and integration of a secure, resilient, and scalable networking solution. You will collaborate closely with our engineering team, DoD stakeholders, and other partners to design and implement a multi-path, SD-WAN, and encrypted architecture. You will ensure the network is optimized for security, performance, and reliability in austere and contested environments. Always ready. Anytime. Anywhere. Any domain. Security Clearance: This Senior Network Engineer position must be a United States Citizen and hold a current Top Secret security clearance. Responsibilities Design & Architecture:
Develop and implement high-availability and fault-tolerant network architectures (LAN, WAN, MAN).
Oversee the design of SD-WAN, cloud networks, and virtualized network infrastructures, including multi-path routing, encryption, bandwidth aggregation, and LPI/LPD (Low Probability of Intercept/Detection) capabilities
Plan and execute network segmentation for security and efficiency.
Routing & Switching:
Configure and manage advanced routing protocols such as BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, and RIP.
Implement and troubleshoot Layer 2/Layer 3 switching technologies, including VLANs, STP, and trunking.
Support IPv6 deployment and multicast network solutions.
Integration: Ensure the seamless integration of network solutions and other critical mission systems. Work with cross-functional teams to deploy network solutions in both classified and unclassified environments.
Network Security:
Implement and maintain firewalls, VPNs, and IDS/IPS solutions to secure the network.
Design and manage network security protocols, including IPSec, SSL/TLS, and Zero Trust models.
Ensure compliance with NIST and ISO 27001 security frameworks.
Performance Monitoring & Troubleshooting:
Utilize network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, Wireshark, etc.) to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks.
Apply QoS principles to ensure effective data prioritization and throughput optimization.
Manage load balancing and failover configurations.
Implement best path routing, bandwidth aggregation, and failover mechanisms to optimize network performance.
Automation & Scripting:
Develop and implement network automation processes using tools like Ansible and scripting languages like Python or Bash.
Work with CI/CD pipelines to streamline network configuration changes.
Documentation & Reporting:
Create and maintain detailed network documentation, including topology diagrams, runbooks, and performance reports.
Provide regular reports on network health, security incidents, and performance metrics.
Collaboration & Leadership:
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support network infrastructure projects.
Mentor junior network engineers and provide leadership in troubleshooting and crisis management.
Lead vendor management efforts and collaborate on equipment procurement and deployment strategies.
Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
TS Clearance with SCI Eglibility
Minimum 7+ years of experience in network engineering roles, with a focus on enterprise-level networks.Advanced certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, JNCIP, or equivalent are highly desirable.
Expertise in routing and switching protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, RIP).
Strong knowledge of network security, including firewalls, IDS/IPS, VPNs, and encryption technologies.
Experience with SD-WAN, network automation, and virtualization technologies (Juniper SVR, Cisco ACI, VMware NSX).
Familiarity with cloud networking in AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
Scripting experience (Python, Bash, etc.) for network automation and configuration.
Proficiency in network monitoring and troubleshooting tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios, Wireshark).
Extensive experience with DoD Classified Networks
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
Experience with project management for network infrastructure projects is a plus.
Preferred Skills: Experience with cloud network services (AWS, Azure).
