Position Overview The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is undertaking a critical project to relocate and upgrade its Traffic Management System (TMS) and traffic light network. This project involves transitioning the TMS infrastructure from its current location at the Reeves Center to a new facility at 60 Florida Ave., which will be dual-homed in a city-wide data center managed by the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) for enhanced redundancy and resilience. The overarching goal is to ensure that DDOT's 1600+ signals and devices dispersed throughout the city remain operational and capable of adapting to future technological advancements. This large-scale relocation aims to increase network security, enhance system uptime, and provide scalability for future growth. The TMS Subject Matter Expert (SME) will be a key resource in supporting this initiative by providing in-depth expertise on Traffic Management System (TMS) operations and infrastructure. This role involves guiding the integration and migration of TMS components, ensuring system stability, and collaborating with network engineers for a seamless transition to the new infrastructure. The SME will leverage knowledge of Actelis switch technology and other TMS components to support continuous operations and optimal performance. The TMS Subject Matter Expert (SME) will provide specialized knowledge on Traffic Management Systems (TMS), assisting in the integration, migration, and operational support of DDOT's TMS infrastructure. This role requires a deep understanding of TMS systems, including hands-on experience with Actelis switch technology. The SME will work closely with network engineers and project stakeholders to guide system configuration, maintain stability, and ensure a successful migration. Ideal candidates have extensive TMS experience, are solution-oriented, and possess excellent problem-solving skills. Essential Job Function Provide expert guidance on TMS integration with DDOT's network to support seamless connectivity and operational continuity. Oversee system stability and offer support throughout the relocation process to ensure minimal disruption in TMS services. Collaborate with network engineers to optimize the transition and configuration of TMS components within the new infrastructure. Troubleshoot and resolve any technical issues related to TMS operations, particularly those involving Actelis switch configurations. Ensure that all TMS components are configured according to best practices and align with DDOT's operational requirements. Document integration processes, configurations, and best practices to support knowledge transfer and future system enhancements. Conduct training sessions or provide guidance to team members on TMS functionalities and integration processes as necessary. Stay informed of advancements in TMS technologies and recommend potential upgrades or improvements to enhance DDOT's capabilities. Minimum Qualifications 5-7 years of experience in Traffic Management Systems (TMS), with specific expertise in system integration and support. Hands-on experience with Actelis switch technology or similar TMS switch systems. Strong background in troubleshooting and optimizing TMS performance to ensure operational stability. Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a relevant technical field. Desired Qualifications Certifications are not required; however, direct experience with Actelis switch technology is preferred. Experience in supporting TMS integration within public sector or transportation infrastructure projects. Familiarity with DDOT's TMS environment or similar municipal traffic management systems. Strong understanding of network configurations as they relate to TMS operations and integration with citywide networks. Ability to conduct system performance assessments and recommend optimizations for reliability and security. Excellent communication skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams, including network engineers and project stakeholders.
