Job description

SJS Executives, LLC (SJS), also doing business as SJS Industrial, is currently seeking a reliable, safety conscious, experienced, Engineering Technician to work full time in Yorktown, Virginia to help support operations at the Naval Weapons Station.

SJS is a Service-Disabled Veteran Owned Small Business (SDVOSB) with 250 employees coast to coast and a headquarters in Virginia Beach, Virginia; it specializes in professional services to support federal and military organizations.

The Pay Range for this position will be $28-$31/hr. The benefits include 11 paid federal holidays per year, 56 hours of annual accrued Sick Leave (equivalent to 7 paid days off), and an employer-paid medical, health, dental, and life insurance bundle. (After 1 year of employment, 3 additional vacation days also become available.)

The Engineering Technician must possess these key qualifications to be eligible for this job:

  1. A minimum of 3 years' experience in reverse engineering, specification development and extraction.
  2. 3 years' experience with defense systems and equipment.
  3. Knowledge of the theories, principles, and techniques of engineering and maintenance of electromechanical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.

An Engineering Technician performs assignments and repair procedures that are not completely standardized or prescribed, selects or adapts standard procedures or equipment, using fully applicable precedents, receives initial instructions, equipment requirements, and advice from Lead Government Technician as needed, performs recurring work independently. All assignments shall be completed in accordance with all applicable instructions, notices and procedures at a 95%+ accuracy rate and completed by the assigned due date 90% of the time.

Responsibilities include:

  • Constructing components, subunits, or simple models or adapts standard equipment; may troubleshoot and correct malfunctions;
  • Following specific layout and scientific diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment.
  • Conducting various tests or experiments which may require minor modifications in test setups or procedures as well as subjective judgments in measurement, selecting, preparing, and operating standard test equipment and records test data.
  • Extracting and compiling a variety of engineering data from field notes, manuals, lab reports, etc., processing data, identifying errors or inconsistencies, selecting methods of data presentation.
  • Assisting in design modification by compiling data related to design, specifications, and materials that are pertinent to specific items of equipment or component parts; developing information concerning previous operational failures and modifications and using judgment and initiative to recognize inconsistencies or gaps in data and seek sources to clarify information.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience as an engineering technician.
  • Requires knowledge of the theories, principles, and techniques of engineering and maintenance of electromechanical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
  • The contractor shall have a minimum of 3 years' experience in reverse engineering, specification development and extraction.
  • The contractor shall have a minimum of 3 years' experience with defense systems and equipment.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a drug test and a thorough background check for access onto a military installation; please note the background check for this position extends past 7 years, in conformance with federal law and US Department of Justice guidelines for work on a military installation.
