Ballistic Digital is seeking a Network/Cyber Engineer to support a sensitive USG program in Williamsburg Virginia. Network engineering responsibilities will be the primary focus of this role over cyber security engineering responsibilities (75%/25%); however, this may vary based on requirements and ongoing projects. Responsibilities: • Evaluating, designing, documenting, installing, implementing, testing, performing problem isolation and resolution, monitoring, tuning, and setting standards.
• Maintaining a complex range of computer network components and systems.
• Performing functions across a wide range of network facilities to include: physical media, protocol stacks, hubs, routers, bridges, gateways, digital servers, line drivers, telecommunications transport facilities, mainframe Virtual Telecommunications Access Method (VTAM, Network Control Program (NCP) (related software/hardware) and network management components
• Providing client consulting and training on the interfacing and use of the network facilities.
• Planning and coordinating major computer network initiatives.
• Researching, evaluating, and recommending new computer network equipment and technologies.
• Utilizing monitoring, performance analysis, network management, software and hardware equipment to trouble shoot and isolate problems, gauge network performance, and trace data and protocol activity.
• Devising solutions to complex operational problems within the capacity and operational limitations of installed equipment.
• Developing and executing contingency plans for network software and hardware failures including isolated and major outages.
• Providing internal consulting, technical guidance, information and support to application developers, computer operations, workstation support, company management and departmental clients.
• Assisting in internal training programs.
• Analyzing systems, including forensically, for malware, misuse, or unauthorized activity.
• Providing engineering support such as network-based intrusion detection for Sponsor systems.
• Investigating virus/malware alerts/incidents to determine root cause, entry point of code, damage risk, and reporting this information.
• Ensuring network defense capabilities are kept current, patched, and securely configured and management informed of status.
• Maintaining system baselines and configuration management items, including security event monitoring policies in a manner determined and agreed to by the Sponsor.
• Providing engineering documentation and coordinating with colleagues to ensure a complete and functioning system that meets Sponsor requirements. Required Skills, Experience, and Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant technical field.
• Bachelor's Degree in relevant technical field - Three (3) years of relevant technical experience will be accepted as an equivalent for a Bachelor's degree.
• Five (5) years of demonstrated network engineering experience and cyber security experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Intelligence Community Directives (ICDs) related to cybersecurity, at a minimum, ICD 503. Additional Desired Skills • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., repeatedly throughout the course of a workday.
• Ability to walk in uneven or potentially hazardous terrain.
• Ability to climb a ladder without additional physical assistance.
• Ability to operate hand tools, both motorized and manual, without accommodation.
• Visual abilities which allow for application of fine motor skills in low light conditions.
• Ability to complete fall protection training and perform work on elevated platforms.
• Ability to connect sensor trailers and cellular-on-wheels trailers to truck hitches and move around Sponsor location sites.
