Job Description Maritime Industry Cost Estimator Overview: Proven experience in the commercial and government maritime industry with the ability to apply a strong work ethic to developing detailed cost and technical proposals for primarily electrical engineering and technician work. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and in groups to review proposal information, determine ship check needs and provide cost proposal that include labor, material, subcontractor, and travel estimates. Responsibilities will include (but are not limited to): Work well in a team, as well as independently to obtain labor, material, subcontractor, and travel pricing and organize all the information necessary to create and submit proposals to customers Ability to use detailed spreadsheets and company-approved formulas to calculate the projected costs of proposed projects Ability to communicate and coordinate with various involved parties, such as designers, engineers, logisticians, technicians, subcontractors, and customer reps Ability to accurately handle multiple proposals simultaneously in a fast-paced environment Ability to make recommendations for improvements or modifications to processes to correct problems and constantly improve the quality of proposals Maintain current knowledge of cost estimating practices Maintain current knowledge of relevant office products (i.e., Excel) necessary to execute job Anticipate travel to be up to 20%, varying throughout the year Qualifications: Candidates must possess the following professional experience & qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related Science/computer programming/Engineering field or 10 years related experience Must have experience working with/on US Navy ship systems as well as commercial maritime ship systems Must have experience developing proposals for commercial maritime and USN projects Engineering or Technical work in the maritime industry is a plus Required knowledge of Windows 10 and Microsoft Office Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance (US Citizenship Required) Desired Characteristics: Ability to demonstrate effective teamwork experience and communication skills, both written and verbal Ability to understand engineering drawings/schematics, follow Navy processes, and communicate issues Ability to work with minimal supervision Reasonable problem-solving ability Attention to detail EEO Statement: The GBS Group is an equal-opportunity employer.
