OVERVIEW:

Merrick is hiring! The Senior Scientist - Biosafety and Laboratory Operations role at Merrick is a pivotal position that demands a dynamic individual capable of managing a diverse range of projects within the realms of laboratory operations, operational planning, and biosafety & biosecurity. This professional will provide direct support to Merrick's clientele, ensuring the seamless administration of contracts across various sectors, including private, academic, and federal domains. The Senior Scientist will support a team of scientists, engineers, subcontractors, and subject matter experts on projects involved in biocontainment laboratory operations. This is a remote position.

The Senior Scientist will work interactively with other teams responsible for laboratory operational planning, assessment of safety and quality programs, and development of laboratory programs (e.g., biorisk management, large animal laboratory issues, etc.). Proficiency in laboratory operations is a prerequisite, coupled with the leadership acumen to steer multidisciplinary teams towards achieving excellence in their respective projects.

A significant aspect of the Senior Scientist's responsibilities includes interfacing with Merrick's clients to formulate strategic execution plans, troubleshoot issues, and coordinate the overall program for projects that garner high visibility. The role demands a high level of effectiveness in client interactions and collaboration with team members to ensure the success of life sciences projects.

The ideal candidate for this role will possess the ability to engage with clients and and contacts at various levels of expertise, and in programs in varying levels of complexity for projects spread across the United States. The position entails moderate travel, potentially up to 50%, to meet the project requirements and client needs effectively.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:
Master Merrick's contractual obligations and operational mechanisms.

Offer consistent, direct support to Merrick's clients, providing project coordination, communication with stakeholders, and development of project deliverables.

Support the Program Manager/Lead Project Manager on contract administration, task development and execution, budget management, and schedule adherence.

Effectively liaise with the project team and clients, guaranteeing the quality and timeliness of project outputs (deliverables, products, schedule, budget) as they relate to laboratory construction, commissioning, and operational planning.

Prepare complex studies, reports, plans, and other technical deliverables for projects.

Support and lead projects end-to-end, ensuring open dialogue with clients about project progress and issues.

Contribute to proposal development and execute marketing strategies.

Prepare necessary documentation for regulatory compliance and permit acquisition.

Engage actively in industry, professional, and community organizations.

Be prepared for moderate travel as part of the role's requirements.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of fifteen (15) years of experience in life science laboratories.

Minimum of seven (7) years dedicated to leadership in biosafety programs.

Experience working in a regulated laboratory environment, preferably working as a Responsible Official.

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field from an accredited college or university.

Exceptional communication abilities, both orally and in writing.

Organizational skills, attention to detail, and a self-driven work ethic.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

Client projects for this position require U.S. Citizenship.

Readiness and willingness to undergo the process for U.S. Government security clearance.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's Degree or PhD/ terminal science degree.

Familiarity with active construction sites.

Experience with high and maximum containment laboratory design and laboratory operational programming.
