Overview:
ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB is seeking an entry level Landscape Designer to join their I-64 (Richmond, Williamsburg, Virginia Beach) VA office. Our past and present clients include municipalities, institutional clients such as higher education, State DOT's, National Park Service and private interests throughout the eastern United States.

Responsibilities

Working with a project team, assist in developing site design from concept through construction

Assist in the preparation of private development applications. Research and interpret comprehensive policy plans, zoning regulations and Land Development Codes.

Assist in the preparation of planning documents for public sector projects. Research and interpret zoning and land use regulations, community statistics and demographics, community profiles, and related community information.

Create concept plans, illustrative plans, and sketches both by hand and computer

Production of drawings, documents, and support/presentation graphics

Preparation of SketchUp, or similar computer-generated 3D models

Conducting field visits for reconnaissance, construction observation and administration

Skills and Attributes

Strong knowledge in digital media design including AutoCAD (Civil 3D preferred), Land F/X, Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, SketchUp, and full Microsoft Office Suite

Softline plans, rendering and illustrative exhibit, presentation graphics skills and 3-D Design and rendering skills is an asset

Strong understanding of design, details, and construction drawing preparation including site layout, grading, hardscape, drainage, and planting

Desire to work with an integrated services team alongside landscape architects, planners, civil engineers, and other multi-disciplinary professionals

Knowledge of ornamental and native plants in Virginia and the Mid Atlantic

Interest in green initiative programs and low-impact design (LEED, SITES, etc.)

Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills

Team oriented with strong capability to work independently

Qualifications

Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) or Masters of Landscape Architecture (MLA) from an accredited Landscape Architecture Program

Excellent written, graphic and oral communication skills

Must have a strong graphics and design portfolio

Strong team collaboration skills
