Job description

Duties You will serve as the technical and administrative supervisor over the Diesel Branch trades workers. You will plan weekly and monthly work schedules and sequence of operations for subordinates. You will coordinate work of unit with other units that may be involved. You will investigate work related problems such as excessive costs or low productivity. You will demonstrate a thorough knowledge of established trade practices, processes and techniques of marine machinery. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a US Citizen. This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101. You will be required to perform duties at a variety of job sites within the commuting area. Travel may be on short notice for extended periods of time, and use of privately owned vehicle IAW JTR Volume II may be required. Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs. Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. (e.g., work resulting from "open and inspect" types of work orders); Repairing a variety of marine machinery and equipment including Diesel Engines and Diesel Generators along with associated equipment aboard US Naval ships.
