Overview:
Under the direction of the SAVP of Diversity and Inclusion, the Director of Program Outreach & Impact provides leadership, management, coordination, and implementation of programs and community engagement efforts related to diversity and inclusion at the Macon and Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University. The Director of Programs, Outreach & Impact will serve as a critical member of the Diversity and Inclusion team. In collaboration with the SAVP, the director will articulate and implement the strategic vision and leadership of the organization's program services; oversee a significant portfolio of internal and external programs and related services; evaluate the effectiveness of programs; lead community outreach and engagement activities; develop and maintain partnerships with community stakeholders; and implement projects and programs that improve the health of the community. The Director of Programs, Outreach & Impact will oversee a program portfolio that includes:
1. Health equity research pilot project program
2. Community engaged programs
3. Pipeline Programs
4. Improving the capacity and capabilities of community advisory boards.
This position must be able to represent VHS to a wide variety of constituencies and stakeholders including institutional leaders, city and state policy makers, nonprofit managers, local public schools, colleges/universities, community activists, and grass roots community members.
Responsibilities:
Oversee the coordination, integration, and delivery of all programs, promoting collaborative relationships between program areas and ensuring that the expectations of funders, partners, constituents, and other stakeholders are consistently met
Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of programs; evaluate program outcomes
Prepare clear and concise reports. Works collaborative with institutional research to prepare program data, reports, and narratives for effective evaluation and on-going development of assigned programs.
Ensure the delivery of qualitative and quantitative goals and outcomes of programs and services
Deepen existing and create new performance and outcome measures for outreach and impact
Analyze and assess programs based on data collected and implement corrective measures if required
Coordinate and analyze the appropriate data to inform the programmatic and operational decision-making process
Demonstrate a sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and personnel, including those with physical and learning disabilities.
Develop effective partnerships with community organizations to conduct outreach and recruitment efforts to increase engagement and diversity of community members in assigned programs
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
Work collaboratively with institutional marketing office to prepare, disseminate, and present information about all assigned programs to internal and external audiences. Oversees development and maintenance of the programs websites, social media platforms, and brochures.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Masters degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Education, Social Work or related field and/or discipline. Prior experience with any of the following: community relations, community health education and outreach, is required.
Must be an expert in communicating persuasively with diverse audiences ranging from policy makers and corporate managers to grass roots community residents.
Should demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and constituencies.
Creative, sound judgement and able to work at times with minimal direction.
Preferred experience:
Prior leadership or supervisory experience, preferably in higher education
Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
Experience that indicates sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic socioeconomic, cultural, disability and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and personnel.
Familiarity with Hampton Roads community organizations, local schools, and colleges
Valid Drivers License, provide a recent DMV report and have use of a vehicle in good working order with proof of insurance with a minimum limit of liability of $100,000 per accident as use of a personal vehicle will be required as part of this position. Copies of all documents must be provided to Human Resources, prior to any use of a personal vehicle for this position.
