Job description
Ready to shape the future of science and global health? ATCC, a leading nonprofit biological resources and standards organization, is seeking a Desktop Support Specialist to work onsite in Manassas, VA.
This role coordinates and executes technical support services to users of the organization's personal computer and telecommunications systems. They provide initial employee support for technical inquiries via phone, email, and messaging applications.
The Desktop Support Specialist works on assignments that are semi-routine in nature. They normally follow established procedures on routine work and require instructions on new assignments. They recognize the need for occasional deviation from practice and apply acquired job skills and organizational policies and procedures to complete assigned tasks.

Responsibilities
- Technical Support and Troubleshooting: Respond to user problems for both software and hardware applications, addressing and resolving issues to ensure minimal disruption. Troubleshoot software and hardware issues on laptops, desktops, tablets, and/or smartphones to maintain smooth operation.
- Installation and Maintenance: Perform installations, modifications, and repairs on personal computers and peripheral devices to keep systems up-to-date and functioning correctly. Install personal computers and associated hardware, software, and peripherals, including handling upgrades and minor programming tasks.
- User Assistance and Training: Provide technical assistance and training to system users, offering guidance to help them effectively utilize technology and resolve common issues independently. Log or record support tickets and/or cases to maintain accurate records and improve service efficiency.
Qualifications
- High School diploma and 2-5 years' experience or equivalent experience.
- Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and resolving hardware and software issues on various devices, including laptops, desktops, tablets, and smartphones.
- Experience with installation, configuration, and maintenance of personal computers, peripherals, and software applications.
- Familiarity with operating systems (Windows, macOS, Linux) and common office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively assist users via phone, email, and messaging applications.
- Ability to provide clear instructions and training to non-technical users.
- Ability to assess the nature of problems and resolve basic support issues independently.
- Strong analytical skills to diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues.
- Ability to log and track support tickets and cases accurately.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate, or similar certifications (preferred).
- Willingness to follow established procedures and adapt to new assignments as needed.
