Our Herndon office is looking for an entry-level Staff Accountant who embodies this purpose to join our best-in-class accounting and finance team.
The position will report directly to the Accounting Manager and will work on an individual and team basis within the Accounting Department. They are responsible for timely and accurate reporting of financial information. The Staff Accountant will deliver consistent and accurate information on a timely basis. To be successful in this position, they must be able to display an extremely high level of organizational skills, be able to multi-task and display honesty and integrity when producing, delivering and distributing information. In addition, a high level of confidentiality must be maintained at all times. In this position, they will be exposed to the full accounting cycle, as well as expense variance analysis. There will also be visibility and exposure to senior management. Responsibilities:
Review bank accounts and perform bank reconciliations to ensure accuracy of entries and closing balances
Record cash receipts and cash disbursements for intercompany and other various cash transactions
Collaborate with the Accounting Operations team on accounts payable discrepancies
Review overhead expenses to ensure adherence with company policies and post any applicable reclass/accrual entries
Prepare and record journal entries for payroll
Review and maintain balance sheet account schedules on a monthly basis
Prepare and distribute month-end financial management reports that analyze trends and performance over time so organizational leaders can make strategic decisions
Create financial packages for leadership meetings
Prepare and distribute monthly accounts receivable metrics reports
Maintain accuracy of fixed assets subledger and process monthly depreciation
Compile reports for year-end process to meet external compliance requirements
Assist with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls and procedures
Assist management with ad-hoc projects or analyses
Performs other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Bachelors' Degree in Accounting or equivalent degree
1+ years of General Ledger accounting and financial reporting experience
Previous experience in a service industry preferred
Knowledge of accounting principles and practices
Knowledge of financial reporting
Proficiency in relevant accounting software and Microsoft Office
Strong technical accounting skills
Strong organizational and analytical skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Self-starter and can demonstrate initiative
Attention to detail and accuracy
