Job Summary Battelle is seeking a mid-level Systems Administrator for a position located in Chantilly, Virginia, supporting the configuration of mobile and fixed site cyber assessment toolkits. These toolkits have a variety of operating systems (Windows, Linux, and VM based). Travel to the customer sites, in the District of Columbia, Virginia, and other customer locations may be necessary based on program or customer needs. The System Administrator III will assist the team with administration, configuration, and technical issues with both mobile and fixed (rack mounted) cyber assessment toolkits. The candidate must be knowledgeable on commodity network systems, Windows and Linux system administration, layered defense and operation of transmission of data across wide area and local networks. This job is right if you have a passion for continuous learning and strong understanding of Zeek, Suricata, Splunk, Security Onion, NTOP, ELK, and virtual machine system management. Working with cybersecurity personnel, a key responsibility will be to maintain multiple toolkit suites in various stages of readiness for pre-deployment, deployment, and redeployment phases. Core responsibilities will be administering, maintaining, refreshing, and ensuring compliance of computer assets used to support our client and team. The applicant should have demonstratable exposure and/or experience as a helpdesk resource and be willing to work directly with network security analysts. A successful candidate will be capable of assisting in the creation of technical presentations and reports, working semi-autonomously on application integration issues, and participating in client interactions and tests. Battelle Cyber: Responsibilities The System Administrator III will work with the cybersecurity, network security analysts, and team leads in building, configuring, customizing, and integrating applications and software systems within cyber assessment toolkits. These systems provide essential capabilities to analysts in evaluating networked systems for vulnerabilities. The candidate will also assist with coordination between corporate and customer entities. Coordinate between cognizant corporate and customer entities to establish SOPs meeting the needs of existing workflows. Stakeholders include: Program ISSM, ISSOs, ISSEs and Sysadmins responsible for the client's facilities.
Battelle Corporate entities with information system (IS) compliance oversight (CIT, Security Engineering, and Government Risk Compliance).
The Software Development staff working to improve the toolkits.
In addition to coordination, the individual will be responsible for providing onsite customers and Battelle teams with expert counsel when knowledge gaps occur to remediate relevant issues.
Administer, maintain, refresh, and ensure compliance of applications with internal and customer policies.
Be cognizant of the security and accreditation of relevant networks and systems.
Following disciplined configuration management approach to change management.
Key Qualifications Bachelor's degree in related field with 5 years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and or experience in a related field.
Experience as a Windows and Linux administrator.
Willingness to work directly with Battelle analysts and end-users.
The credentials necessary to mitigate cybersecurity threats and assess risk (e.g. CompTIA Security+ Certification, CompTIA Network+ Certification).
Familiarity with DISA STIG process, particularly related to Windows and Linux OS.
Familiarity with DoD system hardening process as part of the Risk Management Framework (RMF).
Familiarity with ISSE, ISSO and ISSM processes and relevant security standards.
A current TS security clearance.
Preferred Qualifications Experience with automating and scripting builds of commodity applications onto various hardware platforms.
Familiarity with Chef or Ansible for Windows and Linux
Familiarity with setting up and maintaining virtual machines and networks
Familiarity with a cloud computing environment
Previous experience as an ISSE, ISSO, or relevant credentials.
Eligible for SCI.
Experience with Zeek (Bro), Suricata, Splunk, NTOP, ELK.
Experience with digital forensics.
Experience with network and application vulnerability analysis.
