Job description
Overview: The Physical Readiness Program Instructor will be responsible for the administrative coordination of the program to include maintaining records and test scores, scheduling training and testing events, organizing equipment, preparing training materials, and performing other general administrative duties as required. The incumbent will also support training delivery as an instructor in physical fitness, functional fitness, basic nutrition, injury prevention, and sports medicine care, with responsibility for planning, organizing, and presenting of one or more of these courses and for evaluating training effectiveness to ensure that objectives are met. The incumbent serves as a subject matter expert for all DS specialized physical readiness program material and presentations. Primary Responsibilities: Plans, organizes, and provides basic and advanced fitness instruction and other related physical readiness topics for both domestic and overseas programs in all environmental conditions (indoor and outdoor). Physical readiness topics include cardio/respiratory endurance, stamina, strength, flexibility, power, speed, coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy. The physical readiness program will also cover injury prevention, mobility work, and basic sports medicine care for exercise induced injuries
Administers sponsored DS fitness programs in accordance with DS standards and policies
Provides approved emergency medical training support as needed
Performs Training Safety Officer/role player controller in supported tasks
Reviews established training objectives, lesson plans, training materials, and instructional methods prior to the beginning of assigned courses
Complies with all Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) accreditation standards
Research and reviews current industry fitness standards related to the DS mission and introduces applicable information
Resolves problems that occur in the preparation for and during training
Evaluates training effectiveness to ensure that training objectives have been met
Reviews and analyzes trainee evaluations, feedback from instructors, and personal observations
Identifies need for revision to course content and materials or instructional methods as necessary to improve the training curriculum effectiveness and quality
Evaluates the impact of planned or projected changes in DS physical readiness programs and associated training requirements on the existing content, materials, and methods used for physical fitness training
Recommends minor updates/revisions to courses or recommends the need for a complete curriculum review to the Physical Readiness Program Manager
Provides budget estimates for assigned courses
Monitors the expenditure of funds to ensure optimum efficiency in the use of assigned resources
Participates in curriculum review conferences as a subject matter expert in physical fitness/readiness, emergency medical care, injury prevention, and instructional coaching techniques
Assists instructors in other physical readiness related subjects
Provides assistance in conducting practical exercises when needed
Presents physical readiness/fitness briefings to a wide range or audiences, including senior officials
Establishes and maintains liaison with a broad array of law enforcement, security, military, government and civilian organizations interested in or affected by physical fitness/readiness, emergency medical care, injury prevention, and instructional coaching techniques
Maintains levels of proficiency in current physical fitness techniques, methods, and procedures in small unit tactics, physical fitness/readiness, emergency medical care, injury prevention, and instructional coaching techniques through attendance at training sessions, seminars, and workshops
Assists in scheduling and planning classes by developing and maintaining close contact with program coordinators as well as with other appropriate training entities
Assigns instructors and test proctors as needed to assist in training sessions
Ensures training is consistent with current legal and liability restrictions
Provides physical fitness briefings
Submits training records in a timely manner
Records physical readiness test scores in the DSET QUALS database in a timely manner
Serve as subject matter expert for the design of new training
Tests/evaluates new training courses and instructional materials
Assists with for equipment inventory and maintenance for assigned training programs
Assists in the maintenance of the DS Readiness Program global mailboxes for recording scores, scheduling tests, and fielding questions to the program
Assists in the communication and scheduling for Pre-hire PRT testing with HR and Field Offices and Overseas Posts
Provides Fitness Center Orientations for any Fitness Centers under the Training Directorate
Maintains records of fitness center liability waivers
Maintains the Fitness Library Resource Database
Supervisory Responsibilities: None Education and/or Experience: Must have a high school diploma; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in fitness career field preferred
At least five (5) years instructor experience
Minimum of five (5) years of relevant physical fitness training experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Must have excellent people and organizational skills
Maintains requisite levels of proficiency in all duty-related techniques and procedures
Expert knowledge of physical fitness, functional fitness, basic nutrition, injury prevention, and sports medicine care
Familiarity with law enforcement/military fitness training and testing methods preferred
Ability to immediately analyze, predict, and preclude situations to ensure training is conducted in a safe manner
Ability to establish and maintain liaison with personnel at all levels in order to plan and coordinate assigned responsibilities
Skill in oral and written communications to present training to a variety of audiences
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must have or be able to attain a current CPR certification. Must have or be able to attain a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) certification from a third-party accreditor recognized by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA)
Security Clearance: Must be a U.S. citizen
Possess or be able to obtain/maintain a SECRET security clearance
Physical Demands: The physical demands that will be required inside the work place and for the position. Must lift, will sit, answer the phone, type on a keyboard, move files, etc. Travel: None. Work Environment: Office environment.
