Job description
The University of Vermont, Robert Larner, MD, College of Medicine, and the University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC) are seeking a full-time faculty member at the Assistant/Associate/Professor level on the clinical scholar pathway to join an enthusiastic team of professionals in the Department of Psychiatry in the University of Vermont Health Network. This is a unique opportunity to launch a clinical, education, and research program that focuses on suicide prevention. This program will be affiliated with the University of Vermont Medical Center which is a 400-bed university-based general hospital and is a principal teaching site for residents and medical students.
This attending psychiatrist will help build a team of mental health professionals and researchers that will implement the vision of developing state of art suicide prevention services for the community served by the UVM Health Network. The candidate will provide direct patient care and lead an interdisciplinary team focused on suicide prevention in the outpatient setting. In addition to the clinical component, the selected candidate will be expected to develop a research program focused on suicide prevention. The University of Vermont, Robert Larner, MD, College of Medicine Psychiatry Service hosts medical students on clerkships and electives, sponsors a residency in psychiatry, and a fellowship in child psychiatry. This faculty member will be a key participant in the education of trainees at several levels. Broader leadership in the education of health professionals regarding suicide and suicide prevention is highly desirable.
The selected candidate will demonstrate the training, experience, and expertise to lead a clinical team, provide direct patient care, and establish a research program. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for the supervision and teaching of residents, medical students, and other staff.
Applicants must have a medical degree and be board certified (preferably) or board eligible in psychiatry. Selected candidate will have clinical experience working with patient populations at increased risk for suicide and experience as a leader of a clinical team. As candidates would be expected to develop a research program focused on suicide prevention, prior history of publications related to suicide or suicide prevention and prior grant funding is highly desirable.
