General Purpose

Applies prescribed methods and standard practices in performing all phases of projects and assists other engineering staff on more complex projects. Develops protection system settings, engineering calculations and design documents associated with the construction, operation, and maintenance of the Companys transmission and distribution, facilities/systems. Supports the construction and commissioning of protection systems deployed on company transmission and distribution facilities.

Responsibilities

Develop Protection system schematic designs
Conduct Short circuit and symmetrical component analysis
Perform protection system coordination studies
Relay settings and protection system automation logic development
Conduct arc flash analysis
Manage Integration with SCADA systems
Comply with NERC, FERC and WECC regulations
Develop moderately complex electrical engineering studies.
Guide and direct level I engineers, technicians and drafters.
Deliver on commitments to accomplish assigned work.
Analyze and design engineering methods.

Requirements

Bachelors degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology from an ABET-accredited university
A minimum of two years directly applicable engineering experience.
Knowledge and application of engineering principles in the area of substations design, power system protection and/or power system analysis.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and recommendations.
Understanding of Companys business, and relevant policies, procedures, and practices.
Knowledge of applicable FERC, NERC and WECC standards and the National Electric Codes.
Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations.
Ability to provide timely assessments with limited information and/or assumptions.
Proficient with the use of personal computers and automated tools.
Occasional travel for project work and training

Preferences

Engineering experience specific to industrial power systems or electric utility power systems.
Engineer In Training certificate (EIT)
Familiarity with substation design
Familiarity with power system protection

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 12.00% of salary.
