Job description

Inspects, maintains, troubleshoots and repairs mechanical systems, including fixed and rotating equipment, engines, pumps, generators, compressors, piping, valves, vessels. Identifies and implements reliability, integrity, economic, carbon reduction, and safety improvements for above systems.

Performs routine tasks independently. General supervision of non-routine work. Has basic knowledge of Chevron policies and practices

Chevron is currently accepting online applications for the Instrumentation & Electrical Mechanic position located in Salt Lake City, Utah, available until October 16th, 2024 at 11:59 PM (MT).

Responsibilities for this role include but are not limited to:

  • Install, calibrate, and maintain a wide range of instruments, control systems, including pressure gauges, flow meters, temperature sensors, level transmitters, control valves, and analytical instruments.

  • Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance on instrument and electrical systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability

  • Perform instrument loop checks, calibration, and validation according to established procedures and standards

  • Collaborate with the maintenance team and operations personnel to coordinate maintenance activities and minimize downtime

  • Follow safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and others

  • Troubleshoot industrial instrumentation, including electronic, electro-mechanical, and pneumatic systems

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting instrument PID diagrams, blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical manuals

  • Make sure tasks are completed accurately, within expected time limits, adhering to established protocols, regulations, safety guidelines, and relevant standards.

  • Operate test equipment like multimeters, signal generators, and communicators with confidence.

  • Troubleshoot industrial instrumentation including electronic, electro-mechanical, and pneumatic systems.

  • Ability to grasp complex issues and apply good problem-solving skills to develop recommendations/solutions in both instrumentation and electrical tasks.

  • Maintain programmable logic controllers (PLCs), distributed control systems (DCS), stand-alone single loop controllers and associated I/O modules.

  • Document and maintain accurate records of instrument maintenance, repairs, and calibration activities

  • Keep updated on recent technologies and industry trends in instrument and control systems, and recommend improvements to enhance operational efficiency

  • Offer guidance and training to colleagues and contractors in addressing intricate problems you have already encountered.

  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements related to instrumentation, control, and electrical systems

  • Handling of low and medium voltage distribution systems

  • Working with 480 and 4160 three-phase systems and related SMART overloads to pinpoint and address motor control circuit faults

  • Managing and troubleshooting 120-, 240-, 480-, and 4160-volt motor control circuits

  • Respond and accept after hour emergency requests when needed.

This role involves daily collaboration with Maintenance crafts, Reliability, Operations, and Engineering teams. Typically, the work schedule follows a 4x10 dayshift pattern, usually M-Th or T-F, subject to change based on work needs. Occasional shift work and work outside regular hours may be necessary. Work is performed outdoors throughout the year.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

  • Valid driver's license

  • Completion of a 2-year technical degree in Instrumentation/Electrical Technology or a current Electrical Journeyman's license or minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

Relocation will not be offered for this position.
