Job Description: This position provides specialized education for patients, families, and members of the community. The RN Patient Family Educator position conducts training from approved curriculum resources. This position may conduct needs assessment and individualize educational activities as appropriate for participants. This position participates in curriculum updates and revisions based on current research and policy revisions. Posting Specifics Benefits Eligible: Yes Shift Details: Part time (20 budgeted hours). Hours will be 20 hours/week, schedule will be discussed upon hire, but business hours are M-F, 8am-5pm, as well as at least 1 weekend/month on-call for inpatient diabetes education. Unit/Location: Cedar City Diabetes & Endocrine Clinic Additional Details: CDCES certification, previous experience working in diabetes, familiar with insulin pumps and CGMs strongly preferred. Job Essentials Implements education programs for designated group(s) and / or unit(s). Teaches classes and adapts delivery of education to meet audience needs. Provides effective coaching to patient, family or community as necessary. Shares expertise to support staff curriculum development as necessary. Participates in curriculum updates and revisions based on current research and policy revisions. Remains current with applicable clinical information and increases knowledge utilizing research-based information. Takes accountability for personal development and knowledge base. Maintains clinical competency in designated area for age groups served by performing (formally or informally) in the clinical setting. Helps identify and promote quality improvement. Shares information with physicians and staff and may assist staff in developing a plan of care for applicable education audience to address problem areas. Oversees applicable supplies (as needed per educational content). Performs all accountabilities of Registered Nurse for patient care (as applicable), including all applicable policies, procedures, and guidelines. Follows-up with patients as needed. Job Duties specific to RN Patient Family Educators working in Diabetic Education: Delivers diabetes education to class participant and/or provide individual teaching that supports diabetes management. Minimum Qualifications Current RN License in state of practice. Basic Life Support Certification for healthcare providers. Unit specific certification as required (i.e., ACLS, PALS, etc). (Applicants must either have required additional certifications (e.g. ACLS, PALs, NRP) upon hire or must obtain them within a specified timeframe determined by service line and department guidelines.) One year of clinical experience in area of specialty. Experience or training in teaching or educating. RNs hired or promoted into this role need to have or obtain their BSN within three years of hire or promotion. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN). Education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Degree will be verified. Education experience in a clinical environment. National certification in specialty. Education experience in a clinical environment. Physical Requirements: Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, monitors, identify equipment and supplies, and be able to assess patient needs. and - Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations. and - Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, etc. Location: Cedar City Hospital Work City: Cedar City Work State: Utah Scheduled Weekly Hours: 20 The hourly range for this position is listed below.
