Founding Chair Occupational Medicine opening in east Texas

An academic rank of Associate Professor/Professor (non-tenure track) commensurate with background, record, and experience

Candidate Requirements:

Advanced degree, i.e., MD, DO required
Must possess or be able to secure an unrestricted medical license in Texas upon start
A strong clinical track record in occupational medicine
Demonstrated experience/track record with research and related program delivery
Certification in occupational/environmental medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine
Three years of administrative experience in a clinical, academic, and/or corporate setting or equivalent

Job Details:

Broadly responsible for the administration of strategic, academic, and clinical initiatives within the Department of Occupational and Environmental Medicine
Responsible for the assurance of excellence in community engagement, education, and research within their department, as well as for partnership with UT Health system leaders in the delivery of top-quality clinical care (where applicable)
Participate in hospital committee functions and administrative duties as assigned
Provide education and training to residents, medical students, and other trainees
Participate in research and outreach activities
Administrative responsibility for the Department and provides professional leadership for its activities
The distribution of effort between these duties will be assigned by the Dean of the School of Medicine
Will be expected to provide high quality, cost-effective, compassionate occupational and environmental medical care and health services to program clients at no less than 30 percent effort (0.3 FTE)

The Health Science Center hosts:

An established occupational health clinic that is a member of the Association of Occupational and Environmental Clinics (AOEC) and that offers a broad range of occupational health services to workers, employers, and other clients from across the region as well as professional physician services at selected plant-based facilities
One of only two ACGME-accredited occupational medicine residency programs in Texas and U.S. Public Health Region 6, and is partially supported through a NIOSH Training Project Grant as well as CMMS capped GME positions
A newly established public health/general preventive medicine residency in a sister Department of Preventive Medicine and Population Health
A robust portfolio of grants, contracts, and research initiatives in related occupational, environmental, and public health disciplines (e.g., occupational respiratory diseases). This includes the NIOSH-supported Southwest Center for Agricultural Health, Injury Prevention, and Education
