Overview:
Job Summary:

Lewis Energy Group is looking for someone to head the company's Tax initiatives and responsibilities for the organization. The role will perform oversight of the company's federal, foreign, state, and local, and property tax functions. Coordinates all operations both internal and external with regard to annual tax compliance, audits initiated by governmental agencies, staffing of the tax department, and tax planning for the company and its principals. The position will report to our CFO.

Tax returns: Ensures tax compliance for federal, state and local income tax returns including related analysis and support. Provides analysis and support for preparation of foreign income tax returns by vendors in foreign country and coordinates filing of US tax disclosures required for foreign operations. Responsible for IRS and comptroller audits of federal and state income taxes and liaison with outside tax counsel regarding the same.

Planning: Produces quarterly tax estimates to aid in cash flow analysis and budgeting. Liaises with operations management on tax issues and accounting management and accounting staff of tax accounting issues. Assists company officers or principals with tax research and planning issues as required. Monitors changes in federal and state law and coordinates planning opportunities or risks mitigation with both inside and outside advisors.

Department oversight: Provides oversight of the sales and use tax and property tax functions of the company.

Supervision: Manages various subordinate supervisors who supervise several employees in the Tax function of the Finance and Accounting department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications:
Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university, juris doctorate is preferred.

10 years of tax experience.

Certified Public Accountant certification is required.

Thorough understanding of individual, partnership, and S-Corporation income tax returns and related tax issues including entity structuring and re-structuring.

Partnership/Subchapter K experience required.

International tax, Sales tax, Property tax or Severance tax experience is a plus.

Familiarity with CCH Engagement and RIA online tax research is a plus.

Exploration and production company experience is required.

Oil and gas partnership and joint venture experience is required.
