Role:

Our Banking Paralegal is responsible for providing critical legal support and performing tasks to support departmental legal requests. This role requires expertise in relevant regulations, including those governing IRA and fiduciary accounts, bankruptcy and collections.

Work Location:

This is an onsite position. Occasional remote work may be available for select positions and is subject to prior approval by management.

What you will be doing:

Bankruptcy Expertise:
  • Manages a portfolio of bankruptcy accounts, responds to inquiries and processes relevant documents.
  • Understands and interprets bankruptcy laws, rules and regulations, and ensures compliance.
  • Attend meetings with stakeholders; debtors, attorneys, trustees and creditors.
  • Consult with employees regarding collection actions.
  • Collaborates with the bankruptcy team on account performance and evaluates monthly loan losses.

IRA Expertise:

  • Processes IRA-related requests while adhering to IRS regulations and credit union policies.
  • Conducts retirement and benefits-related calculations, and serves as an IRA Subject Matter Expert for inquiries.
  • Serves as the IRA Subject Matter Expert and responds to department inquiries timely through the appropriate communication channels.
  • Liaises with Ascensus and develop IRA rate sheets, assisting with transactions and compliance.

Fiduciary Account Expertise:

  • Provides support for fiduciary accounts and ensure compliance with standards.
  • Maintains knowledge of products and assists with membership matters.

Legal Research and Documentation:

  • Drafts and prepares legal documents related to collections and manage cases from start to finish.
  • Ensures all legal documents are properly filed and imaged.
  • Coordinates and oversees all activities involving attorneys and precinct coordinators. And process servers for all stages of the litigation process for all 50 states.

Collections Support:

  • Works with the collections team on strategies for managing bankruptcy and charge-off accounts.
  • Interfaces with legal counsel for debt recovery and recommend actions based on analysis.
Compliance and Reporting:
  • Ensures adherence to regulations for IRA, fiduciary, bankruptcy, and collections.
  • Maintains accurate records and generate end-of-month reports.
Client Interaction and Support:
  • Serves as a contact point for members and legal representatives, providing guidance on legal matters.

Administrative Tasks:
  • Organizes legal files and assist with scheduling court appearances and meetings.
  • Updates procedures and identify process improvements.

What you'll bring along:

  • Associate's degree in paralegal studies, Legal Studies, or a related field; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Paralegal certification (e.g., NALA, NFSPS) is a plus.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a paralegal, with significant experience in IRA, fiduciary accounts, bankruptcy, collections.

Preferred:

  • Extensive knowledge of IRA regulations, fiduciary accounts, bankruptcy laws, and collection practices.
  • Strong research, analytical, and drafting skills.
  • Proficient in legal research tools and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills across all levels of audience, capable of interacting professionally with members, attorneys, and legal professionals.
  • Ability to use independent judgment to make quick decision within written policy and standard operating procedures.
  • In-depth knowledge of Credit Union products and services, procedures and field of membership requirements.
