Role Overview:

Could you be our next Data and AI Governance Director? Globe Life is looking for a Data and AI Governance Director to join the team!

In this role, you will be responsible for building the process and technology framework for data governance, implementing a data catalog, and overseeing program management for all data and analytics projects. This role requires a highly skilled individual with Data Governance and AI with experience in the life insurance industry to lead our data governance, analytics, and AI initiatives. Strong experience with AWS, exceptional communication skills to present to executive leadership, and the ability to work cross-functionally to standardize terms, definitions, and metrics across the organization will be heavy utilized in this role. Additionally, this leader will play a key role in monitoring AI regulations and governance, managing our AI system inventory, and contributing to business cases that leverage AI for business transformation.

This is a hybrid position located in McKinney, TX (WFH Monday & Friday, In Office Tuesday-Thursday).

What You Will Do:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive data governance framework, including policies, standards, and processes.
  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of a data catalog to ensure proper data lineage, metadata management, and data quality.
  • Establish and enforce governance for analytics and metrics to ensure consistent and standardized use of data elements across reports, dashboards, and other outputs.
  • Collaborate with business owners to standardize data definitions, terms, metrics, and classifications across the enterprise.
  • Provide strategic oversight for the management of data assets to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Lead program management efforts for multiple data, analytics, and AI projects, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and timely delivery.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (IT, business units, legal, etc.) to execute on project deliverables.
  • Present project updates, data strategies, and governance initiatives to senior executives.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of AI regulations and governance frameworks, ensuring the company's AI initiatives comply with industry best practices and legal standards.
  • Manage the inventory of AI systems within the organization and contribute to the development of an AI governance framework.
  • Serve as a key member of the AI Council, collaborating with other leaders to establish AI-related policies and best practices.
  • Support the development of AI business cases across various departments, identifying opportunities for AI to drive business value.
  • Build strong relationships with business stakeholders to ensure buy-in and alignment for data governance initiatives.
  • Communicate complex data, analytics, and AI concepts in a clear, concise manner, tailored to different audiences, including executives.
  • Facilitate cross-functional teams to promote a data-driven culture and advocate for the ethical and compliant use of AI.

What You Can Bring:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in a quantitative discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in data governance, analytics, or data management roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity.
  • At least 7 years of Product development in AI, Analytics, Data or ERP based products.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading and managing vendor-based data catalog products like Alation, Informatica EDC etc.
  • Deep understanding of the life insurance industry is required.
  • Adept with agile software development lifecycle and DevOps principles, with exposure to JIRA, GitLab.
  • Familiar with large scale architecture design.
  • Deep understanding of data, business intelligence, and decision analytics, including full life-cycle development
  • Experience with agile development tools, including Jira.
  • Self-directed, effective at prioritizing tasks, managing time, organizing people and getting things done.
  • Strong expertise in AWS and data management technologies, including data catalogs, metadata management, and data quality tools. Proficiency in SQL for querying and managing databases.
  • Ability to critically analyze data and provide data-driven insights for decision-making.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously with a strong track record of delivering on time and within budget.
  • AI and Analytics: Familiarity with AI systems, machine learning, and AI governance practices. Experience developing business cases for AI use cases is a plus.
  • Analytics Governance: Strong background in establishing governance for analytics and metrics to ensure consistency across reports and data outputs.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to and influence senior executives.
  • Leadership: Ability to lead and mentor a team while working collaboratively across departments.
