Job description
UWorld is the worldwide leader in online test prep practice question banks. Since 2003, thousands of students have used UWorld's products to prepare for their high-stakes examinations. Due to continued growth, UWorld is looking to add a Tax Accountant to the Finance and Accounting Team. Central to the Tax Accountant's role is a strong understanding of tax laws and the impact on GAAP reporting with the ability to consistently apply critical thinking to the daily work. And in support of UWorld's focus on Excellence and Best Practice, the Tax Accountant must work collaboratively and collectively with those internal and external to the department.
Job Duties, including, but not limited to:
Uses UWorld accounting systems in preparing a crosswalk from book to tax and a reconciliation of permanent and temporary differences
Uses UWorld tax systems in preparation of all tax returns
Provide primary support to the Chief Financial Officer and Accounting Manager in tax compliance and consulting matters for Corporation, Members, and Related Parties
Analyze, research, and interpret tax issues, document, and communicate findings
Timely prepare federal, multi-state, and tax-exempt filings for Corporation, Members, and Related Parties
Timely prepare multi-state monthly/quarterly/annual sales and use tax returns
Assist with preparation of property tax renditions
Assist with unclaimed property reporting and analysis
Timely respond to inquiries/notices from Taxing Authorities on behalf of Corporation, Members, and Related Parties
Timely analyze and prepare Corporate, Member, Related Party quarterly projections
Timely analyze and prepare Corporate, Member, Related Party quarterly estimates
Timely prepare extension filings as needed
Assist in Corporate, Member, and Related Party tax planning
Assist in federal and state registrations, franchise tax returns, gross receipts tax returns, business licenses, and other state and federal filings
Preparation of income tax provisions, including maintenance of deferred tax assets and liabilities, workpaper documentation and reconciliation of tax general ledger accounts (i.e., property tax, sales and use tax, unclaimed property)
Support the team in the annual external audit in the preparation/provision of Prepared By Client (PBC) requests
Assist in tax audits
Assist with organization and maintenance of electronic tax records
Other ad hoc duties as assigned to include special tax/financial projects
Requirements
Required Skills:
Current and advancing knowledge of accounting principles (i.e., GAAP), regulatory rules, regulations, and requirements as it pertains to private entities
Current and advancing knowledge of federal and state tax laws governing income, sales, property, entity, and payroll taxes
Tax compliance and/or consulting experience regarding taxable corporate entities (Form 1120S and Form 1065 experience required with Form 990/PF a plus)
Experience required in deadline driven, multi-tasked, and dynamic environment
Experience in Microsoft Office Suite or other comparable programs
Educational Requirements and Experience:
Master's degree or equivalent in Accounting/Finance/Business/Taxation
5+ years experience as a Tax Accountant or equivalent
CPA and/or LLM required
2+ years of public accounting experience preferred
Experience in researching case law preferred
Experience with international tax compliance, analysis, and provision a plus
Experience in taxation issues around business combinations and acquisitions a plus
