About This Opportunity
Responsibilities:
JOB SUMMARY:
This is a new position that will serve as a liaison between Development and Operations in efforts to improve the performance of our underperforming store set. The role will apply Network Planning methodology and tools to identify root causes of performance issues and opportunities for improvement primarily based on the study of the trade area components around the stores. A second major component revolves around the translation of learning, relative to the performance factors of the existing underperforming store base, toward improved site selection efforts for new stores.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES:
Diagnostics - Use Network Planning and Development tools and methodologies and trade area metrics to identify (i) gaps in capture of our targeted customer bases using comparison to nearby similar stores, (ii) site attributes or missing site standards/opportunities impacting performance and (iii) other external factors. Identify which components of the customer bases that we may be missing in bringing into the stores and which factors may be limiting performance. This will require analysis of sites, demographic, traffic pattern, and competitor data.
Performance Analysis - Understand key themes in the performance of our underperforming stores. Assess financial and category performance trends to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement among groups and individual stores.
Tactics - Suggest steps toward performance remedy to stakeholders and help to rally cross-functional action on their pieces. This role will be empowered to partner with the Underperforming Stores team and the relevant Operations leaders to take action as part of the Underperforming Stores PDCA and as part of Project FORTIS to continue to improve our new store opening strategy.
Reporting - Create and socialize actionable communication on underperforming store performance trends to include tracking of sales and customer count progress and the key leading indicators of impacts to performance. This should result in an actionable, regular report that is not only used by the Underperforming Stores team, but is used by Development in future new store selection and modeling.
Prevention - Bring awareness to at-risk stores that may have the likelihood to fall into underperforming status based on recent performance trends.
Collaboration - Partner with the Underperforming Store team and Operations, Construction, Fuels, Merchandising and other departments. Integrate with cross-functional Project FORTIS and Open Strong, Stay Strong efforts and establish a regular cadence of reporting and interaction with the Real Estate team. All collaboration revolves around the communication of findings from research and tactical suggestions for improvement.

YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE: 3+ years

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Analytical skills:Key to the role is to be able to comfortably translate findings from research into actionable tactical suggestions for Operations toward improvement of store performance.
Day to day activity will require advanced use of Excel and other analytical tools and systems.
Experience in these areas is valuable to the start-up and long-term success of the position.
Communication:Effective verbal and written communication including the ability to build a strong case for decisions with fact-based direction.
There will be regular opportunities for coaching sessions involving presentations to large groups as well as one-on-one interaction with the field team.
