Duties and Responsibilities

  • Month-end close responsibilities, including evaluation of monthly process and implementation of process changes as needed
  • Prepare monthly accruals for LOE, Capital Expenditures, and Well Work Expense, in conjunction and coordination with operations, and other month-end close responsibilities in accordance with the monthly schedule
  • Calculate and record monthly entries for oil & gas assets, depletion, asset retirement obligation, and other operational focused journal entries; ensure all work has appropriate supporting documentation
  • Prepare monthly LOS and Capital Expenditure reports, conduct period over period analysis, budget comparison, and review with operations personnel and executive leadership team
  • Manage and enter AFEs into accounting system
  • Manage asset properties, coordinate ad valorem tax processes in conjunction with the Revenue team, and work with tax provider to provide needed information
  • Manage operational budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes and regularly report to the executive leadership team
  • Hold relationships within the organization that allows management of and adherence to the monthly financial close process and schedule
  • Assist in the review and development of accounting policies, special projects and process improvement initiatives including communicating any accounting issues and resolutions to impacted groups
  • Prepare, review, and analyze supporting schedules and disclosures for both internal and external financial reporting
  • Identify manage, and execute on opportunities to automate reporting and analysis processes
  • Respond timely and accurately to inquiries from auditors

The successful candidate will have the skills necessary to identify and lead projects and see them through to completion. This may include initiatives for cost reductions, efficiency gains, and process improvements.



  • Solid knowledge of U.S. GAAP and COPAS
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the upstream oil and gas industry, Colorado and New Mexico experience a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years financial planning, accounting and reporting experience
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required; CPA is a plus
  • Experience with W Energy, SAP and Microsoft PowerBI a plus
  • Experience working in a growing start up environment strongly preferred
  • Ability to prioritize work, meet deadlines and produce quality results on time with strong attention to details
  • Flexibility to grow and change with company needs
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
