JOB SUMMARY

The Fleet Asset Manager is responsible for the full lifecycle of USAL's commercial motor vehicle fleet assets and resource inventory program. They will work cross functionally with our Fleet Maintenance, Fleet Operations, Financial Services, and Risk Management teams to ensure our assets are effectively and efficiently managed and maintained to meet company standards and government regulations. They will need to be intellectually curious to proactively deep dive into the analytics to optimize the usage of our assets and inventory resources to meet the company's strategic objectives and work with key stakeholders to drive positive results.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Strategic Leadership and Operational Excellence:

Drive Organizational Success: Ensure each essential duty is performed to the highest standards, while fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. Champion the leadership of minor duties as part of broader responsibilities.

Profit Maximization: Proactively manage all fleet and maintenance activities to ensure market base profitability. Emphasize cost control, employee development, and adherence to high training and safety standards.

Capital and Resource Management: Oversee the strategic review and approval of capital equipment requisitions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Ensure efficient utilization and reliable availability of fleet vehicles to meet operational demands.

Performance and Compliance Oversight:

Safety and Compliance: Guarantee that all vehicles and operations adhere to the highest safety standards and comply with local, state, and federal regulations. This includes managing titles, registrations, and compliance with the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA).

Asset Lifecycle Management: Spearhead the entire lifecycle of fleet assets, from acquisition and performance monitoring to strategic repositioning and disposal, ensuring alignment with business objectives.

Development and Training:

Team Leadership and Development: Lead personnel management activities including recruitment, coaching, discipline, and performance evaluations. Foster a culture of excellence and professional growth within the team.

Training and Safety Programs: Conduct and contribute to driver and safety meetings, promoting workplace relationships that enhance morale, productivity, and efficiency. Develop and deliver impactful training sessions that uphold fleet policies and procedures.

Vendor and Inventory Management:

Vendor Relationship Management: Develop and manage key vendor partnerships to secure the availability of critical materials and ensure uninterrupted supply. Administer effective warranty programs in conjunction with the Maintenance and Parts Departments.

Inventory Control: Lead the inventory management processes across the network, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and effective use of warehouse management systems. Develop inventory-related KPIs and report on site-specific performance.

Financial and Reporting Acumen:

Budgetary Oversight: Assist in the budgeting process, ensuring fiscal discipline and timely financial reviews. Manage and reconcile sales order processing and inventory across all locations.

Advanced Reporting and Analysis: Utilize business intelligence tools and advanced Excel skills to create ad hoc reports, analyze fleet performance, and communicate inventory health and adjustments. Prepare and submit management reports that provide strategic insights into fleet operations.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

Process Improvement: Provide proactive feedback and lead initiatives for process improvement in asset management and overall company operations. Engage in periodic audits and evaluations to optimize fleet efficiency and effectiveness.

Strategic Decision-Making: Understand and contribute to the development of fleet asset management strategies, ensuring they support overarching business objectives.

Interpersonal and Communication Skills:

Effective Communication: Employ superior interpersonal and communication skills to engage effectively with internal stakeholders and external suppliers. Drive a service-oriented culture with a positive attitude, demonstrating technical savviness and adaptability.

Responsibly receive, transmit, and handle consumer and customer data per applicable policies and procedures.

Review and follow data privacy practices, policies, and guidelines.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Directly supervises one or more employees. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

Educational Background:

Required: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

Alternative Qualification: High School Diploma or GED from an accredited institution, coupled with a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant professional experience.

Professional Experience:

Essential: A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant work experience, including roles with supervisory responsibilities.

Desirable: Experience in managing a commercial vehicle fleet compliant with DOT regulations is preferred.

Systems Proficiency: Familiarity with web-based fleet management systems such as TMT or equivalent is advantageous.

Skills and Abilities:

Analytical Skills: Must possess strong analytical abilities necessary for complex problem-solving.

Adaptability: Ability to operate effectively within established processes and contribute to the enhancement of these frameworks.

Multitasking and Prioritization: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively to ensure timely project completion.

Detail Orientation and Organizational Skills: Highly detail-focused with superior organizational capabilities.

Decision-Making and Problem Solving: Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills are required.

Customer Interaction: Proven experience in customer-facing roles with a track record of initiating programs and resolving issues effectively.

Initiative and Independence: Proven history of self-direction, capable of delivering high-quality work with minimal oversight. Strong planning skills.

Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective internal and external interactions.

Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
