Job Description:

The Mechanical Engineering (ME) organization leads in mechanical hardware design, development, as well as production using state-of the-art tools, processes, technology, and Six Sigma principles. ME's capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, manufacturing, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation.

The Ceramic Materials Engineer job is in Tucson, AZ and the position is onsite.

What You Will Do:

  • Assessing materials based on conformance to specifications

  • Conducting hands on testing of materials using a variety of laboratory techniques

  • Ceramic processing in a laboratory environment and toll service vendors

  • Engagement with subject matter experts to understand fabrication and material usage

  • Engagement with suppliers

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Ceramics, Chemistry or Physics and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience. In absence of a degree, 12+ years of experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience

  • Experience in composites, high temperature composites and/or thermal protection systems

  • Experience in manufacturing methods and material behavior for C/C, C/SiC oxide and ceramic matrix composites

  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued Top Secret (TS) security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Experience in engaging across a range of program stages to support initial concept development, design for producibility, material, component and integrated TPS system performance verification, characterization and ground testing

  • Experience in collaborating with and technical support of distributed supply base producing high temperature composites, CMC's and Ultra-high temperature coating systems

  • Experience in execution of development projects including program planning and technical program management

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
