SafeHaven is seeking a Prevention Specialist -Secondary

This position is a secondary Prevention Specialist, you will be responsible for creating, implementing, and facilitating curricula and activities within Middle and High Schools around Tarrant County that focus on teen dating violence, domestic violence, and other violence-related topics.

This position has significant responsibilities such as

  • Prepare, develop, and facilitate primary prevention programs using the evidence-based curriculum in schools in Tarrant County.
  • Provides information regarding current methods and developments in the prevention field, including risk factors, signs and effects of violence on youth, and protective factors, for community training as needed.
  • Serves as a liaison for community organizations to promote domestic violence prevention opportunities and participate in community events to maintain community relationships.
  • Responsible for scheduling schools and community prevention programs.
  • Maintains accurate reports of daily activities and completes reports required by the agency and its funders.

In accordance with the agency's team philosophy, you may routinely be required to carry out or assist with other tasks in addition to the duties listed above.

The specific qualifications for this role are
  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work or closely related field required.
  • Public speaking experience required.
  • Experience in education or teaching techniques and classroom management preferred.
  • Experience in facilitating educational curriculum/lessons with youth.
  • Knowledge of domestic violence, teen dating violence, and other intimate partner violence-related topics preferred.
  • Knowledge of the psychosocial needs of youth at various stages of development.
  • Experience and ability to work with a diverse background of students.
  • Skilled in public speaking and presenting to youth and adults.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to accommodate school and community schedules; ability to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Access to reliable transportation to travel and can drive day or night hours.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills
