Job description
Duties You will install, repair, maintain, troubleshoot, test, and load new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment. You will diagnose malfunctioning systems, apparatuses, and components, using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of breakdowns and correct problems. You will inspect electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair, and to ensure compliance with National Electric Codes, Unified Facilities Criteria, State and Local requirements, etc. You will test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system. You will utilize construction practices of electronic equipment in order to recognize types and sizes of resistors, capacitors, wiring, and transistors. This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time. You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases. You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. The work will require lifting and carrying tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 40 pounds. Occasionally, may be required to lift or move heavier equipment with assistance. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is performed both inside and outside. The work may subject employee to work outside in bad weather; in work areas that are noisy, dirty, dusty, and greasy; on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 feet or more; and in close quarters. May be occasionally exposed to the possibility of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and moving equipment. May be exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises.
