Job description

The Vice President of Operational Excellence is responsible for driving Mission Critical Group's (MCG) operational, manufacturing and continuous improvement strategy and ensuring the highest levels of efficiency and effectiveness across all manufacturing processes. This role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills and a proven track record in process optimization, continuous improvement, operational excellence and transformation within a manufacturing environment. The VP of Operational Excellence will oversee the Quality and Safety departments at MCG and work closely with cross-functional teams to implement best practices, enhance productivity, and support the company's growth objectives.



Develop and implement the operational excellence strategy in alignment with Mission Critical Group's overall goals and objectives.

  • Lead initiatives at MCG's operating companies to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs and enhance safety and quality across all MCG operating companies.
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to the operational excellence team including Quality and Safety.
  • Lead and develop a customer-centric quality management system across MCG's portfolio of companies with a common set of principles, design and value for our customers.
  • Lead and develop a safety program across MCG's portfolio of companies with the goal of delivering zero safety incidents.
  • Assist in creating a system of management that implements strategic planning into business execution. Link strategy to execution with a process-oriented approach.
  • Assist in the development of strategic planning for all MCG operating companies.
  • Identify and analyze key manufacturing processes to determine areas for improvement.
  • Implement Lean, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies to drive operational excellence.
  • Monitor and measure the effectiveness of process improvements and make adjustments as needed.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure operational performance.
  • Conduct regular onsite reviews at MCG operating companies and provide actionable insights to senior leadership.
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize operations in high-velocity environments, ensuring rapid response to market changes and customer demands.
  • Utilize advanced analytics and real-time data to drive decision-making and operational adjustments.
  • Ensure that operational processes are scalable and adaptable to support rapid growth and expansion.
  • Work closely with the executive leadership team, including finance, HR, and IT to ensure seamless integration of operational excellence initiatives.
  • Collaborate with MCG operating company leaders to identify and address operational challenges.
  • Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support operational excellence goals.
  • Lead change management efforts to ensure successful implementation of operational excellence initiatives across MCG operating companies.
  • Communicate the benefits and importance of operational excellence to all levels of the organization.
  • Manage resistance to change and ensure a smooth transition to new processes and practices.
  • This role requires 35%+ travel as required for the role.

Required Knowledge/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, Engineering, Operations Management or a related field; MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in operational excellence and process improvement
  • Proven track record of leading successful operational excellence initiatives and driving significant improvements in efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Strong knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma and other process improvement methodologies
  • Experience in high-velocity environments such as fast-paced manufacturing
  • Vast knowledge of industry-specific operational best practices and standards

Required Skill/Abilities:

  • Extremely proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to prioritize workload, multi-task, and work under pressure in a demanding environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills

Supervisor Requirements:

  • This position will have 2-4 direct reports and will maintain a dotted line relationship with MCG operating companies.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Quality and Safety teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
  • Set performance goals, conduct regular performance reviews, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Ensure the Quality and Safety teams are adequately staffed and trained
