Summary This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Applications will not be accepted through this flyer. Notice of Result letters will not be sent to applicants who respond to this flyer. Duties You will make complex technical decisions and judgements for repairs on complex boiler systems. You will ensure all safety procedures and environmental control safeguards are followed. You will monitor and test the operation of power boiler systems to identify malfunctions and potential problems with equipment. You will perform preventative and scheduled maintenance on plant systems and equipment. You will service units by cleaning or replacing filters, strainers, orifices, ignition devices, and other items on power boilers. Requirements Conditions of Employment Must be a US Citizen. The Screen-out Element for this position is the ability to do the work of a Boiler Plant Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision such as: 1) Installing, maintaining and repairing a variety of steam and hot water equipment systems involving power boilers with complicated components, critical requirements and rigid tolerance; 2) Monitoring and adjusting thermostats, switches, regulators, and other safety devices and alarm systems in compliance with established safety standards; 3) Troubleshooting and repairing pollution control equipment; and 4) Using electronic controls, devices and automatic boiler management systems to identify equipment malfunctions. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. PHYSICAL EFFORT: May work in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods. The work may require frequent standing, bending, crouching, kneeling, or climbing. May frequently lift and carry tools and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally items weighing more with assistance of material lifting devices or other workers. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work is usually performed indoors on concrete surfaces where there is exposure to dust, dirt, hazardous chemicals, high-temperature surfaces, high ambient temperatures, direct steam, excessive noise, rotating machinery, asbestos insulation, confined spaces, high voltage, hazardous fumes, high pressure air, steam, or fluids. May occasionally service equipment outdoors under adverse weather conditions. May be exposed to the potential for burns, electrical shocks, cuts, strains, bruises, and chemical irritations. To reduce dangers from these and other similar conditions follows prescribed safety practices and proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety eye and ear protection, reflective vests, aprons, face shield, coveralls, hard-toe shoes, respirators, hardhats, and fire retardant gloves.
